I've lived in SoCal all my life, and I hear about people getting evacuation orders all the time. Yet, I have never personally received one nor have I ever had to leave due to fire or mud slides.

Not to be callous, but why do people choose to live in high risk areas of SoCal?

They probably get the E/O due to liability from the state for not warning people they're in a hazardous zone due to potential damage/risk of serious injury.

I thought PGE was cutting off power to hundreds of thousands of people to avoid the fires?

I just spent about 2 months in CA. I'm not sure why anyone lives there even when it's not on fire.

All areas are disaster prone, question is how many are man made and how many are natural, in SoCal case majority are crap policy and zoning by the local and state government.

The regular floods in the Houston, Texas area are also supposedly because of their planning and zoning practices. I won't even go into the stupidity of New Orleans and building a city below sea level, except to say that my third act as Supreme Allied Commander of the Universe will be to turn Bourbon Street into a snorkel park.

The few times that I've been to/through the plains and midwest, I have been bombarded by hail, supercell thunderstorms, and even rattled out of bed in a hotel by a tornado warning alarm. I don't know why anyone would want to live there, except for their stance on the second amendment.....

People should move inland in Florida, away from the coast, to avoid storm surge and drive up the value of my home.

People are always going to live near the water unless and until insurance is no longer available. Even then some will continue to risk it. When someone has had enough, there is a line of people waiting to buy.

#1 Climate (Sunny, dry, temperate).

Everything else grew off this one attribute.

I live in Fort Worth, Texas. Tornados, hail and other severe weather. I recently visited southern CA for work, and it is beautiful and the weather much more moderate.

I would not want to live there, but not because of the threat of natural disasters. The cost of housing and the run away far left government keeps me firmly planted in North Texas.

Truth.

Money being no object, I'd probably live in one of the nice San Diego 'burbs like La Jolla or similar.

California is a very very big place I believe one of the biggest states and bigger then a lot of whole countries. I think it's hard to boil it all down to 1 good or bad opinion. I don't think it's any better or worse then other places. Ppl say we are all libtard but I also meet a lot of crazy republicans here. Many neighborhoods have trump signs all over the place during the last election.

I think ppl like it because it's their home I bet you like your home too. Nothing crazy about that. If it snows where you live I bet you accept that as part of Mother Nature. When it is some earthquake or fire here we also accept it as Mother Nature.

What can you do against Mother Nature? Even if I could do something against it I don't think it's right as these events are part of the planet earth

The weather maybe, but food? What food? I've had better food throughout most of the rest of the country.

Sorry but hurricanes are the least concerning of the natural disasters. Most houses in hurricane prone areas are built to handle them. Fire, earthquakes, tornados, taxes... fuck that!

Only place I really liked in CA. Still wouldn't live there on purpose though.
