In simple terms, it made her sick. The trucky sideways rocking completely turned her off to the point where she never wanted to take my car when we would go out. She actually said "get another 540!"

So I have had it now for 3 weeks, and I have to say that I am completely and totally surprised by the differences between the G30 and the F10. Forget the incredible new techno options (which blow me away by the way!)... the car once again drives like a dream. It is by far quieter, smoother and more refined than I could possibly have expected. It is quicker, to the point where I don't automatically hit the sport button and pop the shifter left anymore when I want to jackrabbit form a stoplight. And, when I do hit the sport button, the car gives up nothing in comfort or noise anymore.

And, despite its size, it simply doesn't feel so big anymore. It reminds me of my '03 540i, my most favorite of them all.

I see some people finding minor fault with this and that, and I suppose I might find a few if I was driving her daily on long commutes. I just simply wanted to point out that I really feel like BMW has figured out finally how to make this size work.

This is my 12th 5. I started with a '92 535, and I have even owned a 550 GT in the mix between all those V8's and straight sixes.

I agree with you 100%. I have had many 5-series as well. 1995 E34, 2001 E39 525i, 2005 E60 530i, 2012 F10 535i, and currently have a 2018 G30 540i. I have to say that I never felt in love with the E60 and the F10, something special was missing in those generations. The G30 to me feels again a lot what a 5-series should drive like since the E39. The looks, ride, handling, quietness, steering, comfort are near damn perfect. I truly believe the G30 is the best 5-series ever in production. When my lease is up next year, I plan on getting another 540i again. I love it that much.

The M550 is an excellent and addictive car. But don’t expect it to handle like the e39 of e60 550i.
It’s a well equipped and fast luxury car.

My lease is up in 2 years time, and I think I will have to get another 540i as well. We don't get the M550i here, and the M5 is out of my price range.

Only worry with the new 540i will be the new instrument cluster. I far prefer my layout to that of my wife's new X5.

Welcome back! I too suffer from the 5 series addiction, having deviated with Audi and Mercedes, the wife just laughs at me and says "you know you'll go back to a BMW" and I do.

of those, 4 were M5s. So you got me beat on 5s, but I've also had several 3s, a few 7s, a Z and later a 6GC and most lately, the M2.
