idrive 6 rebooting every few minutes

BMW G30 2017 with NBTevo_L and CarPlay enabled via USB.

Working ok with CarPlay for 18 months then recently navigation screen would go blank, the radio would stop and the system would reboot.

It would do this every few minutes.
Navigation was not active. I was using the radio or CarPlay.
Car battery was fully charged (I charged it overnight to be sure)

Tried a restart via the volume button - did not fix the issue.
Removed phone from bluetooth - no change.

Next did a reset (Delete Personal Data) via the drive menu which erased my music, driver profiles and takes 15 minutes.

This fixed the issue and it's been ok for 2 months.

Question I have - was this just a case of the idrive needing a hard reset, or could it be related to the CarPlay installation, or the headunit on the way out.

Error codes below.

Hi mate,

You have not many options to look up for a permanent fix;
  1. The apple carplay box is going bad and causing some issues since it is connected right to your head unit.
  2. You have recently or a while ago coded something to your head unit and he doesn't like it very much which is resulting in system freezing and as a result the head unit restarts.

Solutions

  1. Disconnect the apple carplay and check if that fixes your issue
  2. VO code your head unit. This means that you will write all factory coding data to your head unit which will erase the external manipulations that you might have been made.

If none of this works, probably your head unit needs a replacement.

Hope the first two options will work out for you and you don't need to replace the headunit. Fingers crossed

Greets,
Taylyan

Thanks

The only coding that has been done is CarPlay via USB and that was 18 months ago.
Will monitor a bit more before deciding whether to re-add CarPlay.

BMW updated the iDrive to Y, and the Media/Telephone from TB.006 to TB.007, and charged me £470 due to "after market" modifications.

Car went in for EGR recal.
