I have a 2018 G30 that I bought last year in December, the car was delivered to me from the other side of the country and that evening I noticed that the ambient lights were not working in the following parts of the cabin:
Passenger footwell Drivers footwell Center console cup holder Dashboard Drivers door Drivers passenger door I took it to a BMW auto electrician who identified power going to the footwell light on the passenger side but there was no light, so this was replaced and still there was no lights working. It's going back to him next week to be stripped down to find which part is at fault, but I wanted to ask if anyone had similar issues and what they found the fix to be?. I have a warranty from the dealership which they have been great so far with, but its bugging the hell out of me now and just wanted some pointers. |

Well it's not a bulb with all those not working. Anyway most are not bulbs. I believe they are all controlled by a light control module.
As you say the vehicle is under warranty, i would take it back to them but I'm guessing you are living on the other side of the uk. So, if it's a BMW warranty, any dealer will honour it. If it's a unique dealer warranty then it's back to the other side. As they got it to you, they might come and take it back. Don't delay. The more your auto electrician fiddles the more they can disclaim On the plus side, You've got a lovely car that won't lose a shedload on depreciation |

Appreciated,
I just wanted to see if there was anything I could do myself to quickly fix it. I got hold of the LIN diagram and can see that the front passenger footwell light is the next in the circuit which would cause the rest to knock out. I replaced the fuse F65 which is feeds the front passenger footwell light and still there was no change. With a new light and new fuse fitted and still no fix its just leaving me baffled. The dealership are happy for a local garage to fix the issue and they will reimburse me. Hopefully it's not a big problem to sort. |

Ambient lighting is controlled by the BDC module. My gut feeling is that this is coding or initialization related. For example, when the dealer replaces a light tube or two for failure, it does not work just by plugging it in. They have to initialize and code the new light tubes added. You may have lost your coding somehow or they all need to be initialized and synchronized. It could also be a faulty BDC modules, but I doubt it.
You could spend $100 bucks on an experienced coder and have them check it out or rule it out.

UPDATE
The issue was diagnosed by a BMW specialist, a break in the Lin communication wiring was found after extensive testing. The interior was removed and the wiring replaced. Everything now works as it should |
