ATT Fiber w/Uverse or Xfinity w/Comcast internet

We're trying to save some money by jettisoning DirectTV.

Currently we have Comcast Internet, DirectTV, and Netflix.

Online reviews generally say the two options are a toss up. Fiber has a theoretical edge but
cable in real world delivers more consistent speeds.

I live in a gated PUD with over 100 residences if it matters. We have a couple of wireless devices (phones, laptops, Roku) and stream Netflix via Roku. We generally watch sports and local stations. We hardly ever buy movies from Direct TV and instead rent from Redbox whenever we want to see something.

Any opinions on what bundle they would take?

comcraptic Will generally bundle in video and Internet at a great price.

I would run a speed test on your Comcast line and then find one of your neighbors that has fiber and run the same test and look at throughput. Then look at cost, throughput & latency and make a decision.

Good luck

Thanks.

I've been reading up on it and it appears fiber isn't an option being that I hae coax throughout along with an unorthodox floorplan which makes running CAT5 an impossibility.

I just read a white paper that said 50Mb is plenty for streaming HD content, even multiple streams. 4K content might change that but that is not gaining ground as quickly as anticipated.

Around here it's Verizon that ran fiber but they stopped running it and pretty much stopped improving the service too; not sure if AT&T is the same. Meanwhile Comcast is constantly improving product, speed, reliability. Example: DOCSIS 3.1 will bring gigabit speeds over cable and is already being rolled out by Comcast in certain markets.
