Who has filed a Route 66 claim?

I am starting this new thread, separately from the ongoing Route 66 discussion at https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1981588 for the purpose of focusing on whether Route 66 really pays. The contract looks fantastic in writing, a no-brainer at that price, as many have said. What I would appreciate is a discussion of empirical evidence of what Route 66 does when an actual claim arises. Thanks!

Following, I'm in the same boat as you are and would love to hear if they are as good as they appear.

Someone posted in one of the other threads about their Route 66 handling a significant repair, as promised. I think the person had to pay for some fluids and other miscellaneous items but the warranty paid what it stated in the contract.

Please use the search as it's been covered several times.

I have route 66 and have filed a claim a while back for repairs on turbo coolant lines. Repair was around $4k. I was only responding for stuff like fluids. That claim in itself paid for the warranty as I paid $2700 when I purchased the car. 120k miles or 7 years. I'm very happy with route 66.

Thanks...

I have searched but the info is scattered. Your particular occurrence is the only one I specifically remember.

Respectfully submitted, GD

(Bump) I guess nobody else has filed a claim? I can't say I am shocked, since our sample size is fairly small.

Honestly, both Sam and I have posted a shitload of information and questions about Route 66. The reason you are only getting one hit is because he is the only one with Route 66 here that had a claim.

Best bet is to join one of the M550 FB groups and ask the same. I believe I got a couple of hits when I did that.

I think you don't see too many hits on this site is most likely due to the fact majority go with BMW extended warranty. I think there are less folks here who are part of a credit union and are asking about extended warranty. As Joe said, check out FB, there are a lot of groups there. I personally have not come across any info there but I trust Joe when he says he got a couple of hits. Again my experience thus far has been great, dealer provided me a loaner and they dealt with Route 66. I also like the fact Route 66 sends a claims person to the dealer. This prevents the dealer from trying to add random items that they feel require repair.

Hello. I recently joined, because I was looking for an extended warranty. Once I learned about Route66, I joined PenFed and purchased the warranty for $2900. I have a 2018 M550, and at the time I had 24,000 miles. Back in September, my sending unit on the driver's side went and my Vanos on the exhaust side went. I didn't realize my warranty was up. I thought I had until the end of the month, but was told it was up, two days prior. I ended up paying $1600 for repairs. I then purchased the extended 5-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

In November, my right side went, and my gas tank needed repair, along with the other side of the Vanos. The entire job was $5200, of which I was responsible for $600. Route66 paid the rest and there was not one hiccup. I received a loaner and the service advisor said everything went smooth. Great warranty company.

That’s great to hear. And welcome!

Can you also add your repairs to the issues thread. Helps us to get a gut check on how useful the warranties are overall.

Awesome, thanks for weighing in. Although there aren’t many people with claims experience with Route 66, I have yet to hear anything negative. I almost want something to go on mine to see, but that would take actuality driving it, 😂.

Well, that's a good thing otherwise the pricing wouldn't remain so attractive

My 2018 M550i is at the dealer due to a failure in the steering rack. Route66 at this point is letting me down tremendously. They are willing to cover the replacement but not for. BMW OEM rack. They will only cover an aftermarket and/or reman unit which the agreement originally stated. They will not cover any hardware like bolts associated with the repair. Unfortunately the dealer is struggling with them currently because it seems the rack they want to cover isn't even one that is meant for the M550i. I am disappointed. Route66 said if I want OEM rack I need to pay the difference. Hope to get more updates Monday. I need to remember that this warranty package costed me a fraction. FYI, new OEM rack is $5k.

Wow. Please update when you know more. I’m really sorry to hear that! I was preparing to buy my Route 66 warranty in about 6 months.

Shit that sucks Sam. Which dealer are you at? Sudbury? This is the first negative I’ve read. Makes me wonder if they get more difficult the more claims you file since your first one went so smooth. I honestly have to go back and look for that aftermarket language. Keep us posted. What were the symptoms of your steering rack failure just so I know for my 2018.

On a positive note, I have a friend that bought the Route 66 warranty maxed out at 120k miles for $3200. One month after purchase they covered a $2,200 warranty claim for a new OEM alternator. This is encouraging for a few reasons. First, the short period from purchase to claim and second, I have to think if there is a conadiate for an aftermarket part, an alternator has to be right up there.

This is the Sudbury dealer. Closest dealer to me. The warranty policy clearly states they will use the most cost effective option which obviously isn't OEM for the steering rack due to how expensive the OEM rack is. Maybe it's not a big deal not sure. Symptoms I was having os clicking noises when backing out of the driveway and turning left. Originally foreman thought strut mounts but after using a stethoscope it was determined the rack is making the grinding and clicking noises. Per route66 they claim that OEM not aftermarket there is any guarantee when it comes to parts, they all can fail at any given moment.

Thanks for the color. So basically, you can got to any shop you want, including the dealer, but there is no way the dealer is going to install aftermarket or remanufactued. Hmmm…..for the mater, Bavarian Performance Group in Winchester would show me the door too.

It’s still kind of odd that they didn’t push back on your alternator. Keep us posted.

Speculating... even with the electronics rider, how likely does it seem that they would cover a common electronic failure like the ambient lighting defect? The e-rider I've seen seems ambiguous at best.

It's a tough argument really. The wording states it clearly so only way to go OEM is pay the difference. I'd rather not pay the difference so it is what it is. I'm not overly concerned as of anything goes wrong can just revisit dealer and do another claim should something fail. Remember, cost for this warranty is a fraction of BMW extended warranty.

Actually, lighting is excluded.

The orginator of this thread was very thoughtful. For example, when Consumer Reports rate auto insurance, the foucus in on the insurer's payment of claims, not a survey on what auto insurer sells the most policies or is the most popular. So it's clear from the above thread that many people have purchased Route 66 coverage, but very few have actually made a claim.

I don't have any hard feeling towards Route 66, but it's amazing how insurance actuators limit the company's exposure. I guess that explains why actuators are paid so well.

I think we all went into Route 66 with eyes wide open. I fully expect some raving real life real time reviews as well as trials and tribulations. That's pretty much the feedback on just about every aftermarket warranty. I would personally be more than happy if I never have the need to file a claim. The debate on whether to self insure or buy a contract is always the dilemma. For me, the low cost of Route 66 took away that dilema. But with the low cost, brings skepticism. They aren't in business to lose money, they just target the aggregate and hope they make money. We'll see, I am still optimistic based on the limited number of folks they came through for and I will be ready for when they want to use aftermarket parts as well. Time will tell.

My dealer service advisors positive comments carried a lot of weight in my decision.
