I have a 2019 540i, I used bimmercode to unlock video in motion, I followed the extra steps at the end to enable it using the idrive controller. How do I actually use it? I have an iPhone and my understanding is it has to be USB cable. I have CarPlay off and I use idrive bluetooth normally.

What is the process to actually use video in motion from an iPhone once it's been coded and then enabled in the navi? I'd primarily be using Plex and Youtube apps for the few occasions it would be used.

The video in motion is with the usb. Plug a USB with a MP4 file and play it.

Is there a way to do it with iPhone? I have a ton of mp4 so I can test that tonight. Any idea what the usb drive should be formatted as, exfat?

There is no way to do screen mirroring or to play video from an iPhone without using a jailbroken iPhone. This is on Apple not BMW.

In terms of video in motion options you can play while in motion after coding, this would be from video files on a USB stick in the glovebox port or via a DVD. 2019's had DVD.

I have 30 or so ripped concert DVD's on a USB stick and I have re-encoded them to fit the screen in full. I will throw those on once in a while. I have a couple of DVD's, but those are a PIA.

You can screen mirror with an Android phone.

I tested it today. Worked good from the usb, but a lot less useful now that I realize it doesn’t work from iPhone. Shocking that it takes a jailbroken phone to do that.

You’ll find various threads here of people buying equipment and trying all sorts of workarounds to get something going with iPhone. The only route I’ve seen work are custom head units from China. You’ll save tons of money and headache by just getting a Samsung Galaxy s8 or higher and tethering it to your iPhone. I have one I leave in the car. All the streaming apps work, it pairs easily with the car. Granted, I’ve only used it a couple of times but spent so little on it that it’s no sweat off my back.

I have an old android phone I could use but honestly it’s not worth the trouble if I can’t use my everyday phone to mirror, I’d probably rarely use it anyway, but it would have been cool to check out. I appreciate the help.

I agree, when I got my car I wanted screen mirroring to work for the cool factor. I few searches and googling after trying revealed it's an Apple limitation for safety. Kind of makes sense, huh, lol!! Workarounds are just not worth the effort. I ain't going Android, that is for sure.

Yeah, I have all the videos on the USB, I never use it. I guess what I would really like is for the phone to screen mirror, stream via Airplay or something so I can watch some Patriots, Celtics, etc. games while in traffic via Xfinity.
