The worst thing for wiper blades and indeed all other rubbers or neoprene is the ravages of uv sunlight.
The service length is dependent on use but also where the vehicle is kept. I'm still on my originals after 4 years. The car is garaged. Heard a squeak the other day so time to search for a good uk deal. We pay through the nose here Last edited by Dephead2004; 01-07-2022 at 01:43 AM.. |

The closest I've got to Original Brand New Car wiper blade performance and longevity, is from buying OEM from a dealer… But it can be expensive. Up to you if you decide you prefer to buy Michelin aeroblade/similar from CostCo for $30-odd and replace more regularly instead. |

OEM BMW blades will easily last two to three years here in rainy Seattle. But as someone else mentioned, garage storage makes a big difference. If the car sits outside in the weather, that takes a toll on the blades. I've noticed with one of my BMWs that now sits outside, I can barely get 18 to 20 months out of them. So yes, UV sun damage seems to play an equal amount to the wear as actual use.
There are huge variances in the quality of aftermarket wiper blades, and that can also be seen in the prices. I recall Consumer Reports did a test on wiper blades about ten years ago (before a lot of the newer premium blades came out) and said the factory OEM from most car manufacturers were superior to what was offered on the aftermarket. Put the wipers in service mode. Once in Service Mode lift the wiper arm up and press the button in and pull up so it comes out. Slide the new one in until it clicks. Lay the arm down. Repeat. Then put the blades out of service mode. Should take you all of 5 minutes. |

Thanks for the video. I’m used to the ones that slide into a hook. How do you pop them off ?
Thanks very much. Quote:
