Did you ever end up getting this to work? I really love the aesthetics of this shifter.

Works fine. Just doesn't hold the gear in manual mode. You need to use paddles.

I love the fact that in the video he does this shifter swap "hot" and doesn't even power down the car.

Yeah but can you put it in sport mode?

I found a way in Bimmercode to program the M Menu with M1 and M2 settings. Can you make them work with the M5 shifter?

New features codes with BimmerCode https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1855884

So on the F90 M5 shifter the "S" is not for sports mode, it is for sequential. AKA, paddle shifting that DOES NOT revert to regular auto shifting. Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ are configured using the M Mode Configuration menu (and can be programmed to M1 and M2 buttons).

Yes but I'm talking about the trans. Can you put the trans in sport? I know you can still press the buttons, but it's not the same as putting the transmission in sport as well and I think that the answer to my question is no. So no matter how much I love this shifter design, I wouldn't Install it😭. Unless there's some way to keep the shitting mechanism and just change the exterior design, i.e.: shifts like a regular G30, looks like the M5

The M5 transmission doesn't necessarily have a "Sport" option, it has a shift speed setting D1 (Slow), D2 (Medium), D3 (Fast).

Ah I see. My question still stands though, I wonder if we could just get a shifter that visually looks like the M5 shifter, but still shifts like the G30🤔

Or... just go get an M5 - way more perks over just the shifter!

Ugh I wish! Haha seems like my request is probably not able to be obtained. Although I'll keep my eyes peeled in the future!

Im confused

Install went flawlessly, but all is not entirely well. While I certainly didn't expect all functions to work (higher shift points is an M only feature), I did feel confident that everything else would work.

Unfortunately, I am unable to access Sport mode via the shifter. It's D only. (I can get in sport mode via the dynamic sport button, of course.)

Also, manual mode (up-downshift) only works when you hold the shifter up or down. One-push shifts hold for a second and then defaults immediately back to D. If you hold the shifter up or down, you can hold that gear, but you can't travel multiple gears that way.

Obviously, none of this is ideal for engine braking or other manual-preferred driving situations.

Any thoughts? Do I need coding? If so, where would I even turn for that? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you for your help!

I just use it without the full functionality. I'm happy with it.

Really, moving the shifter to the left just moves the shift points higher. If you're able to use the paddles, you'll be manual shifting anyways. If the only thing that doesn't really work is the ability to move the shifter to the left and manually shift with the lever, then you're not missing much if this is a mod that you really want.

A sure fire way to know if your individual mode with all sports settings “includes” the left shift is using launch control: if you can use launch control then you tricked the system and the ECU thinks the shifter is pushed to the left. If you can’t activate launch control then it can’t work with current programming. Anyhow awesome looking shifter! Let us know if you were able to bypass any of its limitations everyone is interested in knowing!
