Just watched the Ayrton Senna documentary for the first time

Awesome documentary. Heard of his name in 2004 when I started owning MV Agusta motorcycles, but no clue who it was. Glad that now I do.

....such a raw, factual account of Senna's life.

I haven't followed professional Motorsports, which is why I didn't want to post in this forum. I posted this on an old thread, in different forum. Mod made it into a new thread here lol. All good.

Any other good docs or recommend videos, or old races to learn more about him?

It's a great movie, the most fun I had was picking out all the old timers I know of today back in their youth.

Back in early 90’s an entity named DUKE video sold an excellent VHS named AYRTON SENNA RACING IS IN MY BLOOD. https://www.amazon.com/Ayrton-Senna-.../dp/B00WUADA1Y

There is also a book PRINCIPLES OF RACE CAR DRIVING AYRTON SENNA https://www.amazon.com/Ayrton-Sennas.../dp/1874557403. It’s a cookie cutter book (Alain Prost has a similar) but the pictures and diet / exercise chapters are good.

Also google Eddie Irvine on AYRTON Senna. I think it’s hard to comprehend how wicked crazy, simply nuts and intense these drivers were & are.

The Christopher Hilton books on senna Hard Edge of Genius 1990, the editions before he died are the best biographies on him.

There are the 1990 Monaco YouTube videos 1984 Monaco videos. Donington U.K.
1993 in a lesser engines car.

It’s Senna’s qualifying laps which are the wildest.

It's amazing that back then in open wheel racing, the entire driver helmet was completed exposed. With today car, Senna would probably have survived the crash at Imola. But then maybe that's why he has been so immortalized.

I've watched so many times the cause of his off at Imola and the main reason was steer shaft breaking after a section was welded in to make it some 18mm? longer. There were stress cracks in the shaft prior to the welded section and it failed at the worse time before tamburello..

Exactly . Last night I watched the video from his fatal accident (again)
The noise when he hits the tamburello wall is......Terrible ! Terrifying ! It's really clear the cause of the accident was mechanical failure ! He steered very nicely in the long tamburello turn and suddenly the steering didn't respond ..

I found it always really strange that his head (helmet) was still moving at 1:20 in the car ?
Cause of death was brain death . Probably his neck was broken by the impact.
For some of us the images can be disturbing . I'm sorry for that .
May his poor soul RIP ...

It appears that is was the impacted wheel that flew up and came down on his helmet. Not even today's helmets could save you from that and of course the side impact with no HANS neck protection, side sponges and the halo that would have saved him today.
