I have to agree. I have an F80 M3 and i drove a new 340i and i thought that engine was better than mine! So much torque and much smoother than the M. Nicer to drive. Honestly, it did not feel even slightly slower than my M3. I would say BMW is WAAAAY underrating the power. Feels closer to 400+ HP.

I think 5 mph is an exaggeration. My GPS speed does show that BMW speedo overestimates the actual speed on a the ones I've owned but only by 1-2 MPH and that's consistent all they way up to 90 mph. A 5 MPH difference is extreme especially at lower speeds.
Both my BMW's overstate the speed by 3 mph. Consistently.
Because ALL BMWs are set to read exactly +3..

Maybe with the Electronic speedo it will be closer to the actual speed. Then again with the margin of error, these numbers are still fantastic!
Not unless you have it coded out as @CSBM5 indicated. I have done this on one of my cars.

For US Cars the digital display can be coded but the actual odometer needle is still set +3mph.

This is done by design to prevent lawsuits from a driver alleging to get a speeding ticket due to speedometer or vehicle error.

A member dyno'd his 340 after installing the mppk and came in at 368hp and 370tq at the wheels so likely it is getting close to the 400 mark.

I agree. It's my only complaint about it. It looks cool but maybe if they had kept the design of the old gauges while still keeping it digital then it would look better.

You can imagine this engine with twin turbos and better internals and there you have the M3/M4 LCI... Well maybe, we can always dream...

On regular roads (probably from the launch in Portugal).

All the readings are from the odo, but you can get the idea...

Sport mode with ESP off.
0-96kmh (60mph):4.87 secs
0-100kmh (62mph): 5.31 secs.
0-161kmh (100mph): 11.2 secs.
0-200kmh (124mph): 17.14 secs.
0-209kmh (130mph): 18.62 secs.
0-250kmh (155mph): 30.33 secs.

to give you an idea C/D measures for the previous gen 535i: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review

Zero to 60 mph (96km/h): 5.7 sec
Zero to 100 mph (161km/h): 14.1 sec
Zero to 130 mph (209km/h): 25.6 sec

So it means with odo error, but not being measured on a drag strip, the new car is about 1 sec faster to 60mph, 3 secs faster to 100mph, and 7 secs faster to 130mph, which is amazing!

To give you an idea compared to the previous 550i (Auto): http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...trumented-test

Zero to 60 mph: 4.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 11.0 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 19.0 sec

So the new 540i is about as fast as the last gen 550i! So it means that a lighter car and better engine can do wonders in performance, and it's not even an X drive!

0-130 times seems to be off....

"Zero to 130 mph: 20.0 sec"

The F10 550i LCI is much Faster than the 540

2011-2013 F10 550i did 13.0 @ 109-110mph stock, 0-60 in 4.7
2018 G30 540i does 13.2 @ 108-109 stock, 0-60 in 4.8
2018 G30 M550i does 12.0 @ 115-116 mph stock, 0-60 in 4.0
