When it comes to coding is there an app or product that is favored over another? Also, I have to his unit. Is it of any use when doing any programming?

I haven't heard of that specific product, but many of us use BimmerCode to code (you can buy the app from the App Store) and then pair it with the UniCarScan Adapter which plugs into your OBD II port. Some also like the OBDLinkMX+.
Here is the list of adapters that are compatible with BimmerCode shown on their website with links where to buy them: https://bimmercode.app/adapters/

I forget exactly how to do that but it's the same on the 7 series as the G. I've done in both cars
Just email support on bimmer code app. They are pretty good at getting back to you.

The other option and arguably the best is to use esys(google that)
That will give you the ultimate control as you can make any change that is at all possible. However the risk with is that if you don't know what you are doing , you could quite easily mess things up. There are guides out there which you need to digest and follow very carefully. Not even the dealerships have this program which is actually bmw software and I assume it is only used by bmw development and advanced engineers. If you are familiar with the registry in Microsoft windows, it's a bit like editing that - sort of. |

I have esys, but ended purchasing Bimmercode for VIM and found it generally much more convenient to use in general - no need to pull out the laptop and cable, just the wireless dongle which is kept in the car and my phone which is always on me. Advanced mode in Bimmercode allows access to most modules, meaning I haven't needed esys for anything I wanted to code. If I could only have one, it would be Bimmercode (based on the fact I have not found a need for esys yet!) |
