If I have PDC and rear view camera installed, can I add 3 more cameras?

Hi Everyone,

So, I have the Parking Distance Control, and Rear View camera installed. Does anyone know if I can buy and add 3 more cameras (Front, and left and right) and then have the 3D surround view, or at the very least, a front camera for parking?

Just curious. I found a local installer place that said If I do the research, they will do the install. I thought I had read someplace, that if I already have the rear view camera, I would not need to install a different controller for surround view.

I welcome any instructions, videos, links, brainstorms!

Thanks!

Surround view retrofit on G30 is not trivial. I recommend contacting www.bimmer-tech.net before spending too much time on this.

Assuming it can be done (meaning programming can be done for your VIN and current options) here's a short and incomplete list of the parts required.

Surround camera module
Cameras
Retrofit HSD cables (camera to module) (custom order)
Mirror housings that support camera
Front grill that supports camera

I'm also considering to add 360 camera to my car. Has anyone tried retrofitting it yet?

It's going to be a lot more expensive than you're expecting. Which is to be expected. 😄

As far as i know, all parts are original BMW, and it works exactly like out of the factory. Recoding is required.
however, if you happen to/need to go back to the dealer for some major updates, this might cause some trouble coz the dealer uses the BMW system to diagnose the vehicle configs, it will detect unmatching config resulting the updating process unable to continue. (this is what happen to me, BMW system can even tell the order no for the retrofitted control unit).
To overcome this, i just need to disconnect the cables of the retrofitted surround-view camera control unit.
ONce dealer finished with the updates, RePlug-in the cables to the camera control unit and recoding are required to resume the surroundview function.

Im pretty sure when dealer updates software they pull configuration from vehicle. If the retrofit hardware is VO coded correctly, there should be no problem with dealer updating software / iStep level. However, in cases where the update fails (not uncommon) then dealer pulls vehicle configuration from their system which pulls vehicle options based on original order. In this case you would have a problem when the retrofit module mismatches the stored vehicle options in the BMW system.

In summary, if you retrofit hardware, pray your iStep updates go smoothly the first time.

I believe they pull the VO (vehicle order) file directly from BMW servers based on the VIN.

I know several people with F series cars and retrofit options and they've not had problems with iStep updates, unless it failed first. Doubt any of these cars have had updates in more than a year (maybe two) so I suppose it's possible BMW changed their procedures to always push programming based on stored options per VIN. If this is indeed the case that creates a fairly big issue for anyone wanting to retrofit options.

Interesting as I gave up on this idea because dealer said it was too difficult without wiring harness. I love my car and got every option I wanted except this one. A miss understanding as it thought I was getting.

Do you have part numbers for the items shown? So someone installed it for you? Can you give ballpark $$

You don't need to replace the module, the reverse camera module already has the support for surround view.

All you would be doing is coding your original ICAM module and NBTEVO to enable surround view cameras.

First step is to find donor mirrors with cameras and lane change warning, as that will be the most expensive part of the retrofit. Everything else is easy to obtain.

Then find a reputable BMW Indy shop or specialist that can install it for you without any surprises.

(I do installs in the NYC tri-state area if needed)

They would actually need to buy the TRSVC module. According the newtis, on the G30 with only the rear view camera, it runs directly to the BDC, so unless you have the Surround View, you don’t have a module.

Probably a reflection of the fact that rear view cameras are now mandatory in the US. So BMW probably set it up as a stand alone.

Hi do you know if the G30 with the rear view camera would already be wired for the front bumper camera?

If not, which diagram on RealOEM has the part number for the wiring i need to install a front camera to my G30?
