Wow- can't believe bmw didn't paint the camera surround. Looks off on lighter colors.

Is there a way to get that area painted?

Hey Dave. You are a self proclaimed "talented writer" but you totally missed the mark. You said you drove the car. Personally, I'm MUCH more interested to learn if BMW has fixed the floaty, 1980's Buick like suspension on the previous 5 than to hear you describe what I can see with my own eyes in photos.

The electronic dash, in my opinion, is horrible.

I think the vent dial confused 90% of the people that owned a BMW. I myself couldn't understand if I adjust the temp with the dial? The knob? In the iDrive? It was way to confusing for a normal person and I bet BMW gets a ton of questions on it, so they just decided to ditch it.

I do not like the back bumper black accent piece. Looks horrible

I love that they moved to a digital dash, that's a huge upgrade, and glad you can get nappa leather (much better than typical BMW leather). Everything else in my eyes is a side grade. BMW needs to make more risky changes. Even I am starting to not be able to tell the difference between the cars between 2008 and 2017. I can, but takes me a few more milliseconds :-)

Eagerly waiting the M5!

I thought that the dash was all digital? This looks like some weird hybrid thing ? Or is it just the photo?

Guys we got a 540 in yesterday. I realize that some people wanted a more comprehensive review on the actual drive, but the other day when we got the 530i I only had a few minutes with it as it was at the end of my shift and I had to get home. I only took a few minutes to write up a quick synopsis for a "first impressions" write up too as I did not have much time the other day. I am sorry if people took me coming off as self-aggrandizing, I didn't mean to present that image. I will see if I can get some pix and a better write up of the driving experience in the 540 we just got in. Thanks for your patience.

I think this car should not have Dakota leather at all.

Remove the word Dakota and I agree with you. Apart from the benefits of being able to wipe off accidents e.g.; baby sick it is beyond me why anyone wants to sit on some mangy animals arse let alone be linked with the catastrophic environmental disaster that is lining the inside of cars with leather.
Give me cloth & Alcantara any day ( gutted they have removed this option in the uk )
BTW I am not a veggie or an environmentalist

I didn't read all of the write up/sales pitch, but its another step backwards in my opinion on the design front. Still looks too bulbous like the F10

I suppose integrated dash would not be convenient when using the new touchscreen feature

This is the standard dash, in all the first press release pics, the cars had the 6WB all digital dash, but those were German spec cars.
Looks like the full digital dash is not an option in the US. And I believe it was the same with the f10.

Yup, it looks that way, and in the builder I wasn't able to see any options to upgrade it - if that's going to be a MY18 addition then so be it.... I guess I'll be waiting for MY18!

they got rid of the climate dial cause of IQS. along with the auto wiper button, the lock button in the middle, and the blinkers now stick instead of going back. i wrote my thoughts on the drive in another thread somewhere after i got back from the training in Austin. i'll keep it short by saying it is leaps and bounds better than the f10 in every aspect. more comfortable, great balance, steering feels much better but still isn't hydraulic, the chassis is amazing, and the car feels so much lighter than what it is.
we just got a 530i and a 540i in yesterday. all 5 series will be sold at MSRP until inventory is full.

What is IQS?
Initial quality study by J. D. Power.
BMW is currently 5th and they are making it a huge point to try and get to number 1.

I felt that way too- and photos don't help it... but by having the the screen peak above the dash, the dash is now lower and the interior feels more expansive. I am now a big fan/find the integrated look to be dated.

The auto wiper button is gone? Stupid question, how do you activate the rain ending wipers?

It is gone and replaced by the auto setting being the first click up on the wiper stalk. This is the one change that I actually think is great. Now you can leave it on auto all the time.
