iDrive issues and Carplay

a few points - does anyone else experience these issues?

Changed to use/select presets for radio/Sirius stations. Works fine. Turn car off, back on, radio is set to band (FM, AM, Sirius) vs preset list.

When changing driver profiles via menu option, sometimes lose some presets, not all (inconsistent problem).

When using Carplay - display google maps, apple maps or Waze - NOT full screen, somehow even if screen is not split, shows screen split control. How do I get my iphone maps full screen?

When using Carplay, any maps, no ability to zoom in-out via touch screen finger motion, must select +/- control icon and iDrive wheel. Dangerous as it forces you to look at screen.

When using Carplay, can't use idrive voice command to dial a contact, must use Siri, even though contacts loaded into car system. Carplay overrides.

It was indicated in this thread that the full screen issues have been resolved by a recent update to iDrive. https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1521140
You should probably talk to your service advisor to see about an update.

Just my personal opinion, but as of now the implementation of Waze and Google Maps isn't good enough for me to use them over the built in iDrive map. Maybe as they update these, I'll re-evaluate them.

The relationship between iDrive and CarPlay is like oil and water. My expectations with CarPlay have been minimized by the disruptive behavior between the two competing systems. At this point, iDrive works and without a hitch. CP regularly quits on me, bogs down on Tidal Music playback and drops calls. My only really reason to use it for me is Tidal, with it's lossless streaming, and Waze both of which are crippled by the inability to coexist with the cars iDrive system.

I assume an iDrive update may solve some of these issues, but evidently that is not an easy option. I also am not sure if an iDrive update if done would wipe out my coding.

Car Play is a half baked effort at best.

Avoid at all costs.

Is it half-baked or just not fully tested with iDrive? I have not heard of similar complaints on other platforms, but maybe there are. A domestic rental I had with CarPlay did not exhibit the same issues as the BMW. A recent rental of an 2018 X3 had same issues.

I never understand the hatred towards car play. Just finished a drive from Maryland to Atlanta and back. Kept switching between iDrive map, google maps, and Waze to route around 95 and 85 traffic jams. Worked just fine.

I listen to a few podcasts, so car play is a must to listen to them. I've never had a real problem with it.

2019 BMW M550i  [8.00]
I'm very happy with CarPlay on my current car but don't like the idea of wireless only CarPlay with I drive. It will probably have me holding my phone more in my hand rather than using the screen.

It has not been confirmed in that thread that there is an update to iDrive that gives you full screen carplay.
