I have to say the glass on the BMWs are way weaker than what i've what ive had in other cars in terms of negating heat. Im not in extreme in LA but when I have been in my current 4 series the sun coming through has been a lot more intense than what i've found in other cars. I think that's just a big a problem as the AC... which i will say is also weaker than what i have found from other manufacturers.
I have also found more engine and electronic heat permeate the cabin in the BMWs of recent than other brands, so there are like heat zones near the nav and what I assume coming from the engine. I used to be able to run my other cars without any sort of AC on but with the BMW if i don't it will fog up. |

Hi. Here’s the portion of my service documents that clearly outline the work performed. I’m not entirely certain if the numbers associated with the fix are service bulletin numbers. I suspect your dealer will be able sort it out with a look at the attached. I hope this helps. It’s 90° here in Vegas now and I can tell you that the work performed absolutely resolved the problem. Good luck.

Dont suppose any of you guys have had issue with climate control panel being totally dead. No illumination or anything on panel. Everything else on car seems ok.
First thought was fuse ? |

What I have is not exactly an AC issue, but it might be related:
Fogging. Front side windows, and sides of the front windscreen get fogged whenever there is a cold rain or something. And I have to turn on windshield max defrost button to max every 10 minutes or so. In auto mode, I feel like nothing comes out of the air vents located in the corners, thus windscreen gets fogged again. I took it once to the shop, they replaced the condensation sensor, didn't help... It's frustrating!

It took me a while to realise that - compared to all the previous/older BMWs I have had - 'auto' is not simply 'auto' on the G30... there are five 'fan strength' settings even when in auto mode. Make sure it is at least in the middle or higher. |

Just another data point... I just picked up my 2018 540i (March build) and we had a 106 degree day last week. The car sat in a parking lot for a couple hours, and cooled right off after startup, so no complaints here.

Today was the first day i used the AC, my car was delivered last week. At first the AC was blowing so overly hot and i didnt realize there was extra settings in the idrive/ under the "menu" button It was cranked all the way to the heat side.. so thanks who ever setup my car for nothing. Why would BMW bury this?
I was going to join this bandwagon until i finally figured this out, also reading maybe set it in neutral after reading posts? I was setting it at 60 at full max in only 75 degree weather to feel semi normal before finding that setting. Don't know if anyone may have been in the same situation but that was such a stupid learning curve. Drove like that for 30 minutes before thinking this cant be normal. The nav definitely causes too much heat... still a dead heat zone in center but from the lack of frequent posts here vs in 2017 I am guessing this has been resolved for a lot of folks or newer cars? In this kind of climate you will quickly find out if your AC is up to the task or not. Yes there are a plethora of settings in the system. Notice that this car doesn't have a physical rotary knob nestled in the middle of the center dash vents as older BMWs do. This knob allows to further fine tune the temperature coming of the air vents to make it cooler or warmer. This function can only be accessed via iDrive in the G30 and presumably most newer BMWs.

I was very worried when I first read this thread. I got my windows tinted and worried about it a lot (my car is black on black). However, after going through this last hot summer in San Antonio, I no longer have any worries. Adjust the upper body adjustments in iDrive to max cool, adjust the fan intensity to max, and use auto to control the temp. I had absolutely no problems last Summer with the AC. Very robust and capable. No worries!

I find the system adequate (but not nearly as strong as my wife's lexus rx350), however, the annoying thing is I find you need to set the auto temp super low (19-20) to get a comfortable temp. Or when its very hot out set it at max AC. the system is cold enough to keep the car comfortable, but it seems like its just working very hard to do it if that makes any sense, whereas other cars seem to have more "headroom" I have also noticed the glass seems to let a lot more heat in than other cars too and my windows are tinted with high heat rejection film 30%. But when the sun is on the driver side window i can literally feel it radiating on me. Which is interesting because this BMW switched from pilkington to another brand of glass (forget the name) |

Question... and apologies if this has been asked before, it's a long thread. When in auto mode, why does increasing or decreasing the fan speed not turn off auto mode like on every other car? Is the fan speed fixed?? Should it not be variable in auto mode to get to the desired cabin temp? By default the fan speed is in the middle spot.
