I'm looking at a used M550 with Dinan stage 1

Found a nice 2018 with 18k miles. Asking $55.5k. It's. Local Chevy dealer.

Do you think the Dinan helps or hurts resale?

Assuming that the Dinan essentially ends the OEM warranty on the power train, I would think that it hurts resale. I have heard there can be problems relying on the Dinan warranty.

The other issue is whether the original owner who installed the Dinan trashed the car during the 18K miles he drove it. People don't install Dinan systems to drive like a little old lady from Pasadena.

If you are looking to see if the dealer is offering you a good deal, I would think it would need to be a very good deal before I picked it up.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing. $55k isn't a great deal.

I drove the car and it's nice. Exhaust is still very quite from the inside.

I think it hurts resale and should result in a lower than market price. If our dealer got a Dinan modified ca on trade the used car manager would (a) discount the trade in value and (b) send it to auction immediately rather than keep it unless he had someone whom he knew wanted the car. While it's been a few years since I worked there, the dealer's service department would not work on Dinan modified cars and the dealer (which once had been a Dinan dealer) had many issues with Dinan standing behind its warranty, mainly related to emissions, when BMW refuse coverage. Things may be better now but I would suggest getting a perfectly stock BMW M550 (Certified if possible) then if you decide you need to modify it, perhaps start with an aftermarket exhaust system. The M550 is quite powerful in its own right and you might discover that it is perfectly adequate and doesn't need Dinan mods. --Bob
