IMO its not ... Im sure what they learned with that car went in the T/C Cobalt SS.
That's not a production car. Who cares? BMW could do that to a 3 series and get a way faster time, they just don't because its below them.

When GM releases a new firebird, I might have to get one if it has atleast the LS3 engine in it, just for the memories.

Not interested in anything else GM produces except the corvette. Sorry

Your missing the point ... it beat the friken JIC S15 in the time attack and beat the all time track record (meaning cars of all makes and models)

I know thats not a production car ...but the point of mfgs racing is to develop shit for new cars ... Im sure some of the tech in that race car went in the new T/C Cobalt

I think M3This' point is that manufacturers can do amazing things with even a FWD.

So basically...it's quite possible that a well sorted out FWD car can do sub 9 minute 'ring times. I don't dispute that all...in fact I bet they were able to do it using a driver with balls of steel, racing compound tires and certain suspension tweaks.

But then again a well sorted out sports car can do even faster times. The new GT-R is doing 7:38...so looks like everything is getting faster and faster these days.

Having said that...I would still drive my "slow-ass" 325i over a supercharged Cobalt. Like c'mon...it's a Cobalt.

Its a slippery slope. One day you are driving a cobalt and the next day you grow a mullet and live in a trailer park.

To GM: Yeah, thanks but no thanks. I think I'll hang on to my 335i for a while instead. You guys keep up the great work over there!

.... and since when was the 335i made to be a track star? be happy that you guys have a wonderful luxury GT than can still beat many cars twice its price in acceleration, if not stock, then with a few dollars of work, you can't win them all... jesus.

what is the point of this thread? why even compare GMs non-production track machine to a stock 335i which is basically a luxury car. great comparison. great thread.

I bet that thing will be a hoot on the track. Probably will be tough to match the bang for the buck. I do recall the old supercharged Cobalt SS being the fastest fwd sport compact during C&D's Lightning Lap at VIR, and thats with only 215hp.

But we knew that with the introduction of the Integra Type-R, and the BMW Mini (..as far as production cars go).
