Not that I care about the color anymore because it is a done deal for me (my car was delivered 3/29), but I have to respectfully disagree with Laszlo and anyone else who sees eggplant. Graphite is by far the best color as it shows off the the curves and contours while hiding some of the fussy details like the bottom of the rear bumper. I NEVER see eggplant and it is the one thing that drives me nuts about this site because it created undo angst for me waiting for the car to arrive. Although anyone is entitled to their opinion, IMHO the propogation of the eggplant reference should stop. The best I can figure is people may be seeing this with the sky reflecting on the car,

Thanks,

Dan

You seriously do not see a purplish hue? Not trying to be sarcastic, but a friend of mine has one (non M) and sitting out in the sun at work it becomes purple under the Phx sky. Many have commented. I still think it is a cool color though.

Sorry man, but you are dead wrong. Everyone that mentions eggplant references are right on the mark. On shadey days or in the night, it looks great. The moment the sun or any strong direct lightsource hits the hood you get the eggplant effect. Its very clear, and quite common in any area with alot of sunshine. Here in texas, if you got a Sparkling Graphite car you'd see it 80% of the time during the day.

Without the eggplant effect sparkling graphite would of been a dynamite color, its a shame.

Edit* You can even see it in the pictures above, if your looking for it.

I agree, it looks a bit darker than Aspen Silver, a E39 and E38 color, silver with puple undertones.

Cheers

You could always order some painted reflectors if no cars with the color are close by.

Sparkling Graphite in person, IMO is a terrible colour. It's very much eggplant and doesn't look good on the M3.

If colour is challenging, do you best and go to every dealership in your area and see the cars in person.

I was all HOT on the Silver interior but after seeing it in person... it sucks. Looks like a weird dirty and muted blue-gray. And I've owned gray interiors forever. But not now after seeing it in person.

I kept telling myself thank goodness I didn't order sight unseen.

I've seen every colour but MR.

+1
i have been to the dealer several times to see this color in person, and it does not look this good (like in the photo)!
i am going to be ordering the E90 and want Space Gray, but will end up going Jerez...

I used to have a Sparkling Graphite e90 330i and i can tell you that under the sun it has a strong sense of purplish hue. Under hazy days or cloudy days, it has more of a bluish hue and the same at nighttime. I agree that it doesn't look good on the M3 IMO or even a e92 IMO, but i think it looks great on a non-M e90 with style 162 wheels on (check sig, suuuuuper biased )

The pic is definitely Sparkiling Graphite. I was considering this color but in real life, it looked extremely dull to me. Space Gray is lighter and definitely more vibrant.

I don't get it. With Jerez 'Black', it's supposed to be black but in certain light, it's blue or indigo. Most of you here seem to rave about this effect even though the color shows orange peel and swirls worse than just about any color with the exception of Jet Black. It's a very cool color (even considered it) but it also transforms with different lighting just like SG. So, by reading some of the opinions stated in this thread, a color is cool if it transforms to blue but not to purple? This is purely personal taste, right?

IMO, SG is the most aggressive color I've seen on the e90 but I'm biased. On the e92, I would have to agree that SG would not be the best choice. The lines of the coupe are longer and more flowing. With the sedan, it's more chiseled in appearance and IMO, a bit more aggressive looking, especially in SG!

This is Sparkling Graphite, it's my car lol. Yes there is a purple-ish hue in some lighting. This was my second choice next to white but I'm happy I got this color instead. I think it's the perfect color to match CF accents.

I think that overall Spark G looks great. Sure there is a slight purple hue but I think we can safely say that absolutely no one has ever gone into a BMW dealership looking for a purple car, seen sparkling graphite and thought, "yep that's exactly what I was looking for". Then again, how many people go into a BMW dealership looking for a purple car to begin with? Well, sure, its few. But you get the point.

Still, for those keeping score:

Sparking Graphite = eggplant/purple
Silverstone II = blue/aqua
Melbourne Red = orange
Jerez Black = dark blue
Interlagos Blue = purple

That leaves just:

Jet Black = black
Alpine White = white
Space Gray = gray

So if you want a color that doesn't contain any other color there's your guide.
