New 23 M550i Order

Question for those who have done an order before. This is my first time ordering a BMW, not just buying from in stock on the lot.

I got an allocation for an M550i with a production completion week of second week of November.

I see where others have been able to track their builds, will I be given this info as the time gets closer or will I need to contact my dealer for this?

Appriciate any info that you can offer as this is all new for me.

If you have an allocation then once you place the order you will be given a production number and then you will be able to track it through bmwusa.com. Your sales person should give you all this info once you place the order and walk you thru the site and get your registered and stuff.

Thanks for the info. I've been waiting for a long time for an allocation for one of these and pretty excited to get it.

Do you have a production number or are you still in the order bank? If you don't know, ask your CA. Ask your CA to provide a vehicle inquiry report and this will show your build, options and the production number. If you are scheduled for 2nd week November production you should now be in status 111 and by next week youll be in 112. Then around the end of October you'll move to status 150 where you're set with an assembly date and about 10-14 days later your car body assembly will begin. Once your car assembly begins, if all goes well, the process is 3-5 days. Good luck.

Great, it's now in the queue. You can ask the dealer for the estimated completion date. And then join the rest of us constantly refreshing the tracking page.

You can get the scheduled production date by logging into BMW USA's garage. If you've got Google Chrome installed as a browser, you can go into Developer Tools by going to the View/Developer/Developer Tools menu.

From there, you'll want to click on the "Application Tab". Then, under Storage/Session Storage/https://mygarage.bmwusa.com find the "Production Vehicles" key. Double click Production Vehicle's value cell and to control+C to copy the JSON.

Next, open a text editor and paste your clipboard into it. I prefer Visual Studios Code (free download) and install the JSON Prettifier plugin. Look for the prodDate key. My car's prod date showed up in the API response once I went to status 150 and they were right on time, as it was completed on that date.

Once my car was built on 9/28/2022, it promptly went to the parking log at Dingolfing where it's sat ever since. I'm a little salty about that, as I'm reading of others who had their cars built after mine going to "in transit". I'm expecting a call back from the dealer on Monday re: why my car's sat a month at the factory.

Hey that's pretty handy, thanks for the info!

While my car didn't get held up on the same status, it got stuck on the train for over a week while going from factory to port. Based on someone's recommendation on the other thread, I asked my rep to check on stop sale conditions that might be impacting the delay. In my case, he checked and did not find any stop sale events. Based on my understanding, stop sale is a condition where due to some part shortage the car can't progress beyond a certain status.

Another thing he said was if the car didn't make it to port in another week, he was going to escalate to his new car manager to reach out directly to BMW. Maybe that's something else to try? The wait sucks, really hope things get cleared up!

My order here for this 550 has been stuck in Quality check now for a week.

Is this normal, or is it possible the site is just not updated with where it's really at?

I called a genius yesterday to see if there are any updates on my car, which has been sitting in awaiting carrier assignment for 6 weeks.

She said my wait is strictly a shipping capacity issue. She said if it were a missing part, it would be in quality control. My guess is they're waiting on a part to finish your vehicle and move it forward in the process.

Good luck. Hope it gets through soon!

My guess would be something on the east coast as I'm in the midwest/great lakes area.

I'll update as soon as I know what ship etc.

Made it on the Orion Highway last night with an arrival in Baltimore on the 19th. Best news I've heard all week. 😉
