QI charger for Display Key

A friend made a nice QI desktop charger for my display key.
Used the internals of the cheapest QI charger one can find on Aliexpress and modified an existing 3D drawing to accomodate the charge coil and electronics.

Works a treat!

If anyone is interested leave me a PM
I already advised him to advertise this on eBay for people who cannot 3d print themselves.

Why not just keep the diaplay key i the charging tray in the car? I've never charged my key anywhere but in the charging tray in the 2 yrs I've had the car - my cell phone doesn't fit in the charging tray anyway.

I'd reckon because this is a pretty cool item for your work desk or home counter top where your key spends 90% of it's time, so why not plop it in. If I had a display key, I'd probably jump on this.

My key is the exception then. Its spends 90% of the time in the tray in the car. It's in the car at night & thanks to covid, commuting to work & parking at the office isn't needed

If it spends 90% of its time in the tray, then you either drive a lot, leave it in the tray while in the garage where it's not charging because the car is off or you don't really care about it's functionality or you would have it with you. What good is a display key if you leave it in the car? Part of the cool factor is using its functionality remotely.

Simple answer to this question, my car’s spec did not include the charging tray, I did however get the display key option. It took me a while to understand why BMW had included a USB-c to micro usb cable with the car, I initially thought it was for android phone charging….. it was for the key 😭

Quick question, does the key also get incredibly hot with that desktop charger?

Usually just charges for a couple minutes with the in-built one in the car, before it gives the overheating error.
