HK amp replaced by aftermarket amp match

Hi

I am getting my maps updated at the dealer. They said they may need to update my head unit for the maps to be updated. Will the absence of my HK amp cause any issues?

I guess it depends on whether you had to do Head Unit coding for your aftermarket amp. If you get your Head Unit updated it will overwrite any coding that was done in the past.

No, no coding was required for the match amp.

Just curious, what aftermarket amp are you using and how did you connect it?

Could I ask how easy / difficult was this to fit please - DIY or had a pro set it up.
Looks like a decent upgrade to the amp setup, which I assume is the major let down in my setup (S688A)

Was the loom plug/n play as it looks to be.

Thanks in advance.

I got my car in as wanted to change the speakers.

Now I have seem then do it, I think i could most of it.

It’s pretty much plug and play and I have hooked up a mono amp to power a jl audio sub too

Just completed a fair bit more digging and research into achieving a better amp / upgrade in sound quality.
This should be noted for cars post 2019 (G30) & Im in the UK
Prior to this, pretty much the same can be achieved, but with some additional hardware and a different loom.
The current crop of G30 can be fitted with a much upgraded amp - without adding a separate ("Most" digital splitter) box, but does need a made to order loom.
The amp - Helix Match UP 10DSP WITH MEC IN will be a direct swap, but will need attention paid to the DSP setup, probably best left with those who can via the software required.

The HK amp is, as I suspected, the cause of many of the woes I hear.
It does not have the processing power / speed needed to make the best of the signal available, neither does it have the outright 'grunt' to drive the 16 speakers to their best sound.
The quoted '400' watts I find a bit odd, as 400 watts is meaningless without some form of categorisation, (they probably mean 400W 'music power') which basically comes down to circa 20w RMS, or thereabouts. All of that power could easily be taken driving the underseat subs.
While this is good news for me, it is once again, not the cheapest of things to get sorted.
Hope this may prove of use to some out there.
The guys I spoke with have done this to several BMW's, and recently completed a new M3 with a HK setup, not just the 5 series.
