Remote service - 3G or 4G
Hi,
I received the notice below for my 2020 M550ix. Dear BMW Customer, Please be advised that USB Map Update, NOS 3y Exfactory Base Layer Bundle, Connected Package Professional will be expiring soon on your BMW. I also noticed a warning when I went to BMWs website regarding the shutdown of the 3G network in Australia in July 2024 so the remote services won't work if the car has 3G anyway. Does anyone know if the car has 3G or 4G? Thanks |

Use google will find much discussion on this topic. BMW uses 4G and higher from 2018 on. Surprised this is only happening in Oz now. The rest of the world got this notice two years ago.
The nav system isn't all that good, I prefer Waze and stream it onto the Idrive screen. Waze is constantly updated, gives more information like speed traps and red light cameras, users contribute information about accidents and real time traffic and the app is free. |

Yes it’s 4 g in the g30
In contrast I actually think the bmw maps and satnav are good , tried Apple CarPlay but didn’t feel it offered anything that the bmw didn’t. Didn’t like the “childish” interface that it has compared to the bmw . Rtti is good (at least here in the U.K., not sure about oz) If you have he option to buy the speed camera alerts from connected drive , that’s good aswell , not sure if that’s offered in Australia though. |
