Any idea if you'll be able to delete the contrasting parts on the side and front bumper without going after market?

Looks a little cheesy to me, but I like the overall look quite a bit.

Also here's the real question of the day. What are the confirmed curb weight figures for the new M550i?

This matters as I personally do not believe that M Division is going to be able to shave any significant weight compared to the F10 due to the AWD. Since I believe that M will implement some sort of traditional AWD system for the F90 M5 (even though it will probably be configurable by the driver) the overall weight of the car will not decrease. I am willing to bet my own M5 that M Division will make it a proud fact to the public that they were able to add an AWD system to the F90 M5 and keep the weight of the car the same as the F10 M5 but that means we're going to end up with another 4,400lbs sedan, and for me is unacceptable.

Yes, I know the 2018 Porsche Panamera weighs even more than the F10 M5 and is able to set a Nurburgring time faster than the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio, but that is owing to the new Panamera's NASA-like computer system with over 100 million lines of code. The next M5 isn't going to have anything as sophisticated even though it'll have AWD. No, the F90 M5 should be AWD and at least 250lbs lighter than the F10 M5 too. That'll really put it ahead of the competition, but I know this is not going to happen, as the next M5 is also going to be laden with computers and modules weighing it down. They would have to get seriously drastic with the weight reduction. I still argue that it should at the very least get an CF roof, trunk, hood and CF for all 4 doors. That could save almost 100lbs right there.

Anyways, just thought I'd express my pre-disappointment with the next M5 even though it's not out yet. Lol!
Agreed.

and what is this talk about the new M550 being the fastest 5? faster than the current f10 M5? Perhaps 0-60 due to the AWD. but what about at speeds over 60mph? will the f10M5 outperform the new gen M550?
My 2016 f10 M5 is stock, and I def don't want to be beat on the streets by these new M550s lol....

Base price on a 2017 M550i xDrive is $73095 with destination.

Base price on a 2016 550i xDrive w/ M Sport Package is $72845 with destination.

That's a difference of... $250. Yes, you could drop xDrive and the M Sport Package off the 2016 550i and you'd have a bigger price delta, but you wouldn't have a remotely comparable vehicle, especially since the wheels and bodykit on the M550i are completely unique to that model and aren't the same as the M Sport Pack on the 540 or 530, whereas the M Sport Pack on the 2016 550 is the same on a 535 and the same body (different wheels) on the 528.

You might already have seen this, but for those who haven't:

Yes, and 6 years later when the E60 M5 came out it claimed the throne as the fastest production sedan at the time, partly due to the fact it had +100 hp over the E39, and as stated before could potentially hit 200+ MPH.

Less raspy than the F80 MPE, but not as throaty or deep. Could use a small boost of adrenalin, but not bad. Thanks for the link!

I want more of the sound of my wife's 340i with MPPK, (it's one of the best sounds and exhausts I've ever heard) it's barks, snorts, cracks in sport mode and is calm and reserved in comfort. This isn't bad but not great.

Audi is actually doing really good job for badges, they separate A, S and RS series. Make people more clear, unlike BMW and MB, they have too many "half M and half AMG" models now.
Cannot agree more. Either is an M or it's not. I think it's confusing and watering down the marquee but that's just me...
I understand where you're coming from but lets not forget the E28 M535i that was introduced in the early 1980s; we can hardly call this a new fad.

From Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_5_Series_%28E28%29

"M535i: The top of the regular production model range, the M535i uses the drivetrain from the 535i plus M-Technic suspension, wheels and body panels not found on the standard 535i....."

As long as BMW follows along with those sorts of modifications there's just nothing wrong with calling it an M550i. If BMW wants to cannibalize this M550i model by letting you add all the M550i options to a regular 550i then that's their fault for doing so. Saying a car is either M or not doesn't really make sense. Buying a car like the M550i is basically saying you got some BMW M division inspiration in your 550i, nothing wrong with that!

I'm just not a huge fan of the nomenclature. Could have used any number of different designations to differentiate the two without confusing the M. Feels more like M\\arketing than anything else but it's a great car no matter what it's called.

I think it would be more like 3.5 sec for 0-100 km/h time for AWD version.

There will be no regular 550i. At least this is what they did in Europe, where we have had the M550d for couple of years now and it has never been available in regular trim. I am assuming this will be the same case.

I'm so delighted that we are seeing an introduction to M cars having AWD. First with the excellent job BMW did to the XM series. I hope they follow suit with the full-fledged M series from the M2 to the M8 as an option in all the next generations.
The next gen M3/m4 are going to follow suit with the F80 M5 and come standard with AWD and probably push button RWD. Huge game changer!

The current gen F10 M5 does 0-60 in 3.7 secs and that was the 2013 model.

That's going to be nuts. I hope it doesn't add too much weight though. IMHO I wouldn't mind the M3/4 shrinking a tiny bit.

Its the fastest 5 series to date but not faster than the F10 m5. F10 M5 is 0-60 in 3.7 and runs high 11s with 122 trap. This M550i probably will be high 12s just has a quicker 0-60 due to tuning and AWD that's about it. Don't worry you'll spank it. Now if its highly modded when that may be different...

This may become like the painted reflectors you can buy for the F10. IND-USA will sell us a kit with Painted reflectors, and painted hocky stick heads.

From the M Performance web site, it looks like they're using these silver-gray accent pieces on the front bumper and behind the front wheel as a way to identify it as a M Performance vehicle — similar to the way Volvo does silver-gray mirrors on R Design vehicles.

It doesn't look like you can delete or have them body color (except by perhaps trying via BMW Individual). I don't like the look, and I can tell you those are going to be painted or replaced immediately when I order.
