Intermittently working blind spot detection
Hi,
I picked up my Oct 19 build 530e CPO recently and seeing that the blind spot detection on the passenger side is not working all the time, however the driver side works flawlessly. I am coming from Juy 16 330e and the blind spot detection works on that on both sides without any, except sometimes missing lorries which might be due to a bigger ground clearance (in the 530e i feel this detection is way more improved atleast on the driver side). After talking to the sales guy he confirms that they checked everything and it is working as expected as i did ask them to check it after my test drive before the purchase. He claims some smartness in the system and Yada Yada Yada. Can somebody confirm or explain it. Thanks in advance. |

On my now 30 month old 530e I have NEVER had that happen.
I haven't had a lorry problem but, then again, we don't have lorries in the states. I take it that the problem is intermittent so you can't demonstrate it to the dealership? |

The Blind Spot Warning will only turn on when it detects a car in the blindspot, but it will go off once the car has exited your blindspot. In the Intelligent Safety Menu you can adjust the warning from early, medium, and late if memory serves me. I'd try adjusting that first to see if it is just that you'd prefer it to be on early.

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to confirm if there is any thing that I am missing, seems not. Will drop by the dealer this week or next week and test drive and hopefully can show this issue. The early option will show it a bit earlier, but if it does not detect at all, dont thinks that changes anything. But, I tried early as well before posting.

I had a similar problem on my 2019 540xi with an intermittent lane departure warning in March of 2019. It would go off at times even though I was changing lanes without a signal it wouldn't warn me. Happened on a long trip on the highway in good weather with clear roads and a clean car. Had it checked at my dealer and they couldn't find a problem. The RO said somewhat cryptically: "5272 Performed vehicle test has lack of visibility fault which is caused by rain, snow, dirty windshield, fog no other faults were stored." Even though none of those conditions existed when I had the problem. Perhaps a loose electrical connector? But for all that, I have not noticed it malfunctioning since. --Bob

Back to your issue, I know BMW in the past had released TSBs for the blind spot radar. It likely doesn't apply to your situation, but ask them about B660720 and B660820 just in case. If they can't find anything talk them into upgrading your iStep level as software can be the source of the issue. If they refuse ask them to open a Tsara case.
