Rattle from front passenger seat/headrest

I have a new M550. Great so far (except can hardly drive due to virus shutdowns). But I have one very annoying rattle that I think is from the front passenger seat/headrest. Happens when going over rough patch of road or just small bumps at any speed over about 20mph. Obviously will bring to dealer but any thoughts out there?

I had the same thing, sounds like it's coming from the passenger seat, but I've narrowed it down to the sunroof. Only rattles when the sunroof is closed and the shade is open. Will have the dealer look at it next time it's in for service.

I'm thinking you only hear this when there's no passenger. If so, try Rotating the metal part of the seatbelt buckle away from the door.

Well, that is true, in that I haven't even had a passenger yet. But I have tried the seat belt trick, and it hasn't worked.

Search for Gummi Pflege Stift. That stuff does wonders for rejuvenating dried rubber seals! I bought some for my old 2006 E90 which had squeaky door seals. Lubed them up and didn't hear a single peep from them in the five years I owned it.

I also recently had the sunroof squeaking issue that you mentioned on my G30. It seems like a common issue. I was going to take it to the dealer to have it looked at under warranty, but tbh I was too lazy for something so simple! Then, I remembered I still had some of the Gummi Pflege around (hadn't used it since I used it on my E90 years ago) and I lubed up all of the rubber seals around the sunroof and BOOM no more noise! Try it out.

In my car, I have a similar rattle, but it's the passenger seat belt buckle hitting the plastic covered pillar between the doors. fixed it by placing some adhesive 1/4" thick felt tape on the pillar where the buckle was hitting. Obviously only happens when no passenger with seat belt on.

I have tried all the seat belt buckle tricks, including fastening the seat belt as if there was a passenger in the seat. But still the rattle. And the visible vibration of the seat back and headrest coincide with the rattle.

I will take it to dealer as soon as it is safe to do so.

Thanks for all the inputs and suggestions.

So, finally was able to take to the dealership to get seat rattle looked at. Fortunately there was a guy there with a lot of experience who had seen this before, and the solution was simple. My wife is working overseas and can't get back here due to the virus. So nobody has been in the front passenger seat since I picked up the car. As a result the seat was in the full upright position from the factory. Simply tilting the seat back about 10 degrees resolved the situation since this allows more flexibility, per the mechanic, especially with a brand new car.

I had the dealer take a look at my rattle while the car was in for an oil change. They determined the rattle was coming from the sunroof seal and replaced it. Haven't driven it yet to confirm, but the dealer said that it eliminated the rattle on their road test.
