Android Auto in 2020

I just got a used 2020 5 series. It currently has Apple Car Play but not Android Auto. I searched the internets and found some posts claiming the dealer can install a version of software that has Android Auto. Is this true?

On a side note, my manual seems to be inconsistent with my car. It says to check the version go to CAR, Settings, General Settings, Remote Software Upgrade, but I don't appear to have that last option.

Thanks!

2020 5 series doesn't have RSU feature because it only has ID7 lite.
Even it does, you can't get Android Auto after software upgrade.
Someone could Activate Android Auto, you can search on the forum.

I have 2020 530ix with ID7 Lite. 7/20 and later software update will give you AA at the dealer. You can use one of the TSBs (e.g. gesture control, if you have it) on this forum that requires a software update to get the update under warranty.

I take it this can only be done on the newer models?
I've not long bought a used 530D and it's a dream of a car but I miss Android Auto badly. 😢

There is also non-OEM method

Not accurate. The only accurate part is the 2020 5-Series lacking RSU.

Android Auto is supported via a software update to be any version after 07/2022. Once that’s installed by a dealer AA will be supported and work on the vehicle.

No need for “coding” or anything of that nature. I doubt those would even work since the 2020 is iDrive 7.

But iDrive 7 is required for AA right? No iDrive 6 update would enable AA?

7/2020 gave me AA. 2022 a typo?

100% correct. I did not have AA, but after my 2020 M550 was updated with the latest software, now I do. It also added some other goodies too. There are ways to get the dealership to update your software for free. For me, it was my 3D view of my car not working on the MyBMW app. After software was flashed, it worked. You need parking assist pro to remotely view your car in the app.
