When he stripped off the tint he had installed nine months ago, there was clearly still a layer of tint on the window. Unsure if it is on it, or in it. It was there when I purchased. I assummed it was factory installed, but suppose it could have been installed by the dealer who sold to me in Grapevine. I had added the extra, quite frankly, out of fear induced by this forum with all the initial complaints about weak air conditioning.....we do live in South Texas, after all. However, having been through a Summer now, the air conditioner works great, and those fears were unfounded. Had I known this, that initial level of tint probably would have been adequate all along. Live and learn. I'm happy with it now.

The glass has no tint from the factory. Most car dealerships here on Texas have them tinted upon arrival. Some cars like the X series have some darker windows in the rear (which is called privacy glass), but it is not tint. It's built into the glass. The G30 doesn't have that - at least not in the US which is my preference so when do you get it tinted it's all matched.

Bumping an old thread while searching for an answer.

My car is a 2019 M550. I noticed that then I put my iPhone on a vent mount on the driver's side vent nearest the door, that the dash and iDrive gets dimmer. I assume I'm blocking the light/photo sensor tricking the car into thinking it's night?
Where is that sensor located? I can't seem to find it.

DUDE! You just helped me figure this one out. I really thought my tint was causing the brightness changes but the timeline matches up better with the fact that I added a ProClip mount. You probably used the same brand?

I have had ProClip in the past, but but this one isn't. It's an ESR vent mount. I put it on the vent next to my window above the light controls.
Do you know specifically where the sensor is? I can't seen to see it visually.

No I haven’t really spent time looking for it yet. If I find it I will let you know!
