...... It is nice to be able to pop-in an old CD and enjoy crystal clear sound quality while getting the original album art + playlist.

Too bad the in-dash CD/DVD player is a dying breed in the car industry but lucky to still have it in our G30s.

I only listen to CDs and radio (FM, not satellite) in my G30. One of the first things I checked was if the M550 had a CD player.

Who has time to reacquire music and load onto a phone/drive? Nevermind organizing the songs into playlists... I sure dont

That was the one thing I was surprised wasn't in my MY2020 530e. My 2014 C300 MB had a 5 disc CD changer built in and I loaded it up (alongside music on an SD card). I guess BMW is no longer including the CD player on the G30

Likely with the advent of ID7 "lite" in the 2020 G30, BMW sought to ax the in-dash CD player.

Wow, I did not know they had removed this for 2020 G30's... crazy.

I swiped the below picture from a dealer site, but yes, you can definitely see just a solid piece of trim where the disc slot was, and a blank plate for the Eject button.

At least you can still transfer music to the internal HDD..

Yeah, I'll admit I went to stick a CD in and went "oh...." lol

It isn't all bad though since the USB drive does support FLAC I'm not losing a ton of quality. So I've loaded a 128GB super small thumb drive up and let it sit in the cup holder USB slot.

My MB didn't support FLAC and that was a true shame.

Most likely no (at least not easily/cheaply), for the same reason people who wanted to retrofit Live Cockpit/iDrive 7 from the 2020's in to their 17-19's. The headunit and instrument cluster are different, as are the amplifiers, and the wiring for those systems is completely different as well.

Realistically the only option would be to retrofit the Rear Seat Entertainment system which would give you a disc drive, but that could also be cost-prohibitive for some.

This is one of the reasons why I bought a 2019 540i instead of waiting for the 2020 model. I still get the round digital gauges, CD player and IDrive 6, although I don't know why the CD player had to be removed as the dash is still the same. The 2020 7 series changed to IDrive7 and the new crazy digital gauges, but still kept the CD player I believe...

Well, I've a MY20 530e, and it does indeed have a CD-player, and idrive7 etc... Guess it's an option, but I never opted for it, so maybee the dealer specc'd it without telling... Since I picked the car up three months ago I haven't used it once though..

It’s not an option in the UK. BMW seem to have gone down the Spotify, Deezer & Napster route. You get 3 months free Deezer & Napster but I went with Spotify - I am very happy with it !

I think it's a pretty common practice for manufacturers to quietly delete some features from cars in their pre-refresh year - to cut costs as much as possible in order to compensate for increased incentives due to slower sales. My 2018 Volvo S60 is more noisy (clearly less sound insulation installed), than the identical 2014 model I used to have; trunk floor is missing a convenient divider, etc... Understandable, I guess.

I think they also use it as a test bed to see how many complaints they get in a period of slower sales so it isn't as impactful on them if the change isn't well received.

They have been quietly de contenting the G30 since it's debut in 2017. First year cars had LED front fogs standard and then they were made optional in 2018. Then in 2019 they removed the chrome accents from the exterior door handles and then in 2020 the in dash CD player.

However, in fairness, for 2018 they made some of the previously optional safety electronic nannies standard equipment as of MY2018. So I guess it all balances out. But not having a CD player in this car would upset me!😉

Download it ti hard drive. Then it's permanently in car. Access through media. I have over 500 albums in my cars hardrive.
