Voice Command
Hey guys!
Just crossed the 1500m mark in the car and have been loving every second of it (minus the gas bills)! Its dawned on me that I never use the voice command and was hoping you all could help shed some light on it. Do you guys find value in the voice command? Are there any commands that are better than the others? I looked through the manual but it was mind numbing and know you all have the most accurate information! Any help is appreciated! |

I use what I suspect is a small fraction of what it is capable of .
Dialling phone numbers (very accurate never had an issue with that) Say "dial number" and then when prompted read out the numbers and then say ""call" Navigation - day "drive to" along with your destination. You can say a location rather than an actual address such as drive to brook lands museum. Selecting a radio station , say "radio lbc" It can be a bit hit an miss. Numbers I've never had an issue with (nor did I on my previous f10 or e39 for that matter" Words can be misinterpreted such as cancel being interpreted as council. Need to play with it and find what's useful and arguably easier to use whilst on the go which is really I guess what it is intended for as you get to items in idrive probably quicker when stopped. I'd certainly miss it if it wasn't there. |

"stop navigation". I only use the nav when I don't know which way to turn (I am spatially challenged) but once I get to more familiar areas I no longer need it. So sometimes I will start the nav but once I don't need it it is merely annoying so i use the stop navigation voice command.
"go home". self explanatory. "presets". brings up presets. |

My experience with, and use of, voice command is almost identical to APs. I will say that the Voice Command in my 2018 530e is far superior to that in any prior BMW I have owned in terms of its accuracy and usefulness.
One of my frustrations with the car is that every time I call a number it appears as a separate listing in the "Recent Calls" option (which is what gets displayed if you press the phone button on the steering wheel). I tend to scroll down the displayed numbers when making a call as this is what I always did in previous cars. However, if I happen to have made my last 10 calls to home the last 10 numbers displayed are all the same number. Consequently I use the Voice Command more than I did in the past and find it to work very well. |

It's the first car with voice commands I have had, that actually work well.
Here are some of the commands I use. Tyre pressure - brings up TPMS screen Map - brings up map Enter destination, then you can say a POI, or address, this works really well Dial number or "name". Name is a bit tricky, especially when it is not typical English. Power display - bring up power display screen The frequency of the radio station, ex 93.7 fm - will change to that station. |
