What is your go to driving mode most of the time
For me
Eco - long highway drives Comfort - routine driving - most of my hours Sport - kick down for quick situations or traffic Sport plus - fun or aggressive driving |

I have my default on start up coded for adaptive. Though I really can't tell a difference between adaptive and comfort that's how I set it
Eco is great except it seems to kill the ac, in south Florida you need all the ac you can use City sport individual with engine in sport, gears set sport plus , steering/shocks set to sport.

Comfort, all the time.
I might put it into sport or sport plus once a month. |

edit: I suppose if I'm driving 3 hours and stick to cruise control then I'll try eco pro, but that scenario doesn't really happen often for me. |

Comfort 90% of the time, but I do move the shift lever to the left a lot in traffic, as I've found that having the transmission in sport mode closely mimics my former M4's DCT in Drivelogic 2 mode, which I used all the time. In traffic, it shifts less often, and stays in gear for coasting to slow down, so less braking. Otherwise, it's Comfort with the occasional blast in Sport Plus.

I used Bimmercode to set mine to start up in Sport mode rather than Comfort. I will often drive with the shift lever in Sport mode (automatic) around town. For the highway I usually switch to Comfort, also if wife is in the car so the BMW Performance exhaust isn't too intrusive. --Bob

For me, Comfort or ECO Pro. I like ECO Pro on the highway and comfort when in traffic.

So my recommendation would be use ECO Pro for highway drives where you're able to use cruise control and will have a fairly stable speed. As I noticed that it got a fair bit of its boost from doing coasting a lot more efficiently. And I'm sure there is other stuff too, but that's what I noticed. |

My experience with ECO modes, you only really gain fuel efficiency if you drive to the mode. The settings encourage a relaxed driving style. Throttle mapping and low rpm gear up-changes are the key means to gain mpg.
I've driven to optimise the ECO mode in several models, and yes, you gain mpg. More so in how you accelerate, slowly modulate the throttle, rather than in steady speed driving. It helps 'smooth out' the erratic driver. But drive in ECO as you would in Comfort mode, and mpg is near identical. Plus if you apply a few economy driving techniques to Comfort mode, you gain mpg like in ECO mode. |

That being said, the massive boost may be limited to just the 530e. As the coasting was done purely on electric in ECO Pro. |

Why the "ultimate driving machine" would be driven in ECO mode is beyond my scope of thinking.

For example, I bought a 530e for environmental reasons. I don't care about mpg except to the extent that it is a proxy for pollution. I do a lot of local driving in pure electric mode (I can and do charge during the day as well as at night). But when I am out on roads that permit it, I like to exercise the car. That is MY compromise. People who sometimes drive in Eco mode are probably making other compromises. |
