I just checked a recent production retail unit. They're not exactly red nor are they Amber. The LED's themselves are red but the light prism is Amber, so they're, well, very orange.

Thank you. Were the turn signal light elements the same as the Euro spec or was it like the 7 series where the brake elements also flash? This would be the difference between a plug and play swap or a coding and wiring change.

Unfortunately I didn't have anyone to hold down the brake pedal so I don't know.

Thumbs up

Finally saw the rear of the car on the street. Car looks nice! Good news is that only the L shape of the indicator is used just like the Euro model, so it should be pretty straightforward for a plug and play swap, without coding.

Now that I'm waiting for my car to arrive, I found a vendor on eBay that is selling them. Has anyone else done a retrofit for these? See the following thread: https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1582620

As I posted in the section on cosmetic improvements, I would also be interested in learning more about how to do this. While I realize many folks like their red turn signal lights, I personally prefer the appearance of amber ones and I think there is a safety issue as well. More than once over the years I had been following a car that I thought was turning but in fact simply had one brake light out and was pumping the brakes. I like the logic of amber for turn and warning signals, red for brakes and running lights. If these are BMW parts your friendly local BMW dealer parts department might be able to help; one can often get a decent discount from them if you have a good relationship with your dealer. I will check on this in a couple of weeks When I return from a trip out of town.--Bob

There is NOTHING to this retrofit.

Buy the EU Spec Lights, take off your US Spec lights and reinstall EU lights with amber turn signals.....Voila, you are done.

Why do you guys slightly think there is coding or anything more involved when you are swapping an OEM BMW tails just with different color turn signals?

I have done this in all of my BMWs and G30 wont be any different. Straight plug and play.

The only coding that is required is if you want to activate the rear fog lights regardless if you have US or EU spec lights.

This thread was first started when G30 first came out 2 years ago. At that time, nobody knew if the turn signals would be like the 7 series / X5 where they use the brake signals as well as the turn signal elements.

It is now common knowledge (on this forum at least) that the G30 US spec turn signals have the same element as the Euro ones, as what you are used to. So yes, you are correct there will be no coding required for this mod.

I actually did not know that about the X5 and 7 series.

This is something that Audi does with their US spec cars which drives me crazy.

It took a while to figure out how to code our SQ5 when I swapped out the lights. I hope BMW doesn't go in Audi's direction and combine brake and turn signal lights! Of course they all get away only for N. American market as the rest of the world would not accept this nonsense.

I am with you 100%. Asinine to say the least. I have no idea why they go out of their way to make a separate set of parts (affecting the bottom line) when the majority of non-enthusiasts (not to mention enthusiasts) wouldn't care either way. Plus if someone really really wanted red lights they could always red them out themselves.

Maybe on my next car after this I'll be reaching out to you help code this nonsense away.

Absolutely! If you end up in a Audi, Porsche or a BMW, I will see what I can do.

It was unbelievable to me that no one was able to code Q5 almost 5 years after introduction.

I did bunch of research, trial and error coding and was able to figure things out.

Then the right thing to do of course is share it with the community

Hello, to see if you can guide me with this topic. I want to put the American adaptive led. Originally my M550i model has the European adaptive led. The difference is that the American model has the side beacon.

for example left side:

Investigating I put references: left European headlight: 63117214963. Left US headlight: 63117214965.

European left flashing LED module: 63117214941. US left LED module: 63117214943. The following references for the other modules are the same for both the US and EUROPEAN models. I think that by removing my European headlight and mounting the US one, everything will work the same and I will have the US led WITHOUT PROBLEMS.
