BMW 530e 2022 LCI Coasting

Hello, does 530e gain electric while coasting mode?

Assuming you mean when it’s running in the engine, if it’s like a 540 and 550 it won’t.
The transmission is in neutral and the car coasts
If it’s in gear with no gas then again if it’s like. 540 and 550, then it will put some energy back into the battery
Think of it as an intelligent alternator

My answer is assuming it behaves like a normal ice non hybrid in this particular scenario

Oh okay, As I understand while coasting mode, there is no energy gaining to PHEV's battery. yes?

That’s the case for a non hybrid
With coasting there is next to drag which is why you can coast for what seems like a long time. If it were charging, that would add drag
Your instrument cluster presumably show if it s putting any energy back into the battery or alternator, the idrive should have a screen for energy flow.

I drive 2022 530e, in normal hybrid mode there is regen braking when you let off the gas, so this will recharge the battery (gain electric)
In sport mode the regen braking will be maximised, meaning max electric recuperation
In hybrid eco pro the car is coasting = no electric gain

There is no option to change the coasting option in idrive although i believe it could be coded?

Understood very well thank you. Good explanation. I heard somewhere that regen braking is not working on highway. In sport mode you told it is maximise regen braking. is regen braking working on highway?

Regenerative braking is working all the time unless your battery is full or outside of operating range.

Since you have a 530e you should be able to notice the difference. Regenerative braking feels a lot like engine braking on an ICE so you'll notice if you let off the gas the car slows down in a manner that feels "stronger" than if you did so in an ICE car. On my pre-LCI you could only get the regenerative braking to disable in "Eco Pro" mode.

As mrlaws mentioned that shifted around to Hybrid Eco Pro. There is was also something about disabling it in Comfort mode, but I'm not sure if that's the case or not since I don't have an LCI.

Sport mode turns it up to help ensure you have some charge for electric motor assist. As the car needs both drive trains to deliver full power.
