Saw a pic someone posted, it has "Ionic" on the climate control display. What does that do? Is that a Euro specific option?

I think it must be related to fragrance dispenser, in order to have that option you must have it . The picture you uploaded is to 4 zone A/C unit

On iDrive, there is a specific on/off option for ionisation, separate from the fragrance settings

I think it comes with 4-zone AC.

In addition to full-colour touch screen in the front, rear screen and button controls and B pillar vents it also offers "Heat recovery" and "Automatic Air recirculation" functions.
I suspect ionic is linked to one of them.

It apparently comes with the Ambient Air package according to the Belgian brochure. It purifies the air through ionisation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_io..._air_purifiers

And also, we don't get 4-zone climate control, or the nice touchscreen. Ours looks like this:

Can anyone with 4-zone climate (4NB) confirm if they have this feature OR does it require a some other option code as well?

I think it's part of the ambient air option, the description for which includes 'While the fragrance is being released, air from the exterior is filtered and purified. Air quality is also significantly improved through oxygen ionisation. "; Ambient air and 4 zone ac are part of one package, premium in the UK, so in most cases one will be with the other...but if you just have the 4 zone ac, I don't think you will get the ionisation.

I had a 740d on loan for a week, and that had 4 zone ac, but no ambient air...and no ionisation.

Interesting, I wondering why BMW didn't offer ambient air package in US either. Its listed for only £265 on bmw uk site.

In the US you have to get the 7 series to get this.

The 4-zone climate control is a standard in Canada but the ionizer (with the fragrances) is part of the $400 Ambient Air Package option 4NM.

I heard from BMW that 4-zone will be an option in US for MY2018. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

Perhaps, but not an option for MY2018 M550 at least through APR 2017 production.
