I have been trying and trying and I cant remove the cerium pieces from the front bumper. Are there any updates here? I feel like I need to bring it to a shop for them to do it. This is nuts!

Cerium is a bit harder. You'll have some broken clips unless you take apart the bumper.

UPDATE: after continuing to fail to remove the bumper trim, I brought the car to a well-known euro/exotic shop. 30 minutes and $53.00 later, the trim is now black! Saved myself the headache and a bunch of broken pieces.

I did find it extremely difficult to remove the clips from the back of the bumper as shown on first photo. What worked for me is the following.
Push-in the clips as shown on the Photos #2 FIRST (not easy I agree), Once the top part is relatively loose, then you can simply wiggle back and forth and with gentle force trim comes off. |

Was trying to do the same for the luxury version but it's impossible to access the pins without removing the wheel well covers. And even when doing so, only two can be seen directly.

Ended up going the cheaper alternative, and smoked out the fog lights with Stek Dyno Smoke instead. Cost me about 1/10 or even less of what a real fog light delete would cost.

Straight to the point. Added the M Performance OEM's. I really don't get it since you get the Shadow Line pack, why you don't get these already piano black as well by default.

Carbon fiber installation
Hey all, I just received a set of carbon fiber front bumper trim pieces from Autotecknic. Has anyone else experienced fitment issues where the pieces line up but won't slide in far enough for the clips to engage?
I have reached out to Autotecknic but haven't gotten any info from them that helps one way or the other. Thanks in advance for any info. |

Hey Guys, I'm about to attempt this process on my M550.. Would be easier to just intentionally break the clips off the stock pieces for removal? I mean I'm just going to throw them out anyway. Just wondering if that would speed up the process??
Thanks! |

I haven't removed cerium ones but the process is very straight forward if you have an 8 inch or longer flathead screwdriver to start the process through the ducts and something pointy to help depress the tabs while you pull from the front. |

I know this thread is dated, but I just swapped out the stock cerium trim in a short amount of time using the attached Ares pry tool (set available on Amazon). It has a long, solid hooked edge. I was able to stick this in the front of the grill, grip the tabs, and pull them towards the vehicle and forward at the same time to unlatch them (it still takes some muscle). Now with a little space between the trim and the frame, I used the hooked end to pull the rest of the trim out (yes, clips broke, but oh well). Total process took maybe less than five minutes for each side.
My new black trim had the extra guide pieces like in some of the original photos - those were easy to snap off and install from there was a breeze. |
