You give someone with enough time, they'll figure it out. Just look at The Fappening.

Besides, the JB4 didn't really "crack" the ECU. It's a piggyback.

well either way from just a piggyback tune, i would be pretty happy.

i guess the people who it would affect more, are the ones who are going for bigger builds.

Great thread.
I have to share a little bit on my experience couple hours ago.
I was visiting ER to take car my F10 today and help ER to install S55 JB4 on their M4.
Very nice of Fred at ER to let me joy ride his M4 back to my office to grab a set of the tune from my office. So, I got a chance to drive the M4 in stock condition.
I've coded the car while waiting, then Fred told me that he wanted to install the JB4. So, I hang around and help him on the installation.
It was not bad for the first time installing it. It took about 20-30 minutes to get it done. (Well, actually longer waiting for the engine to cool down).
After we secure everything up, Fred drove the car around the block and came back with a big smile on his face. He told me that it was big improvement.
He told me to take the car for a spin. I was reluctant at first, but man, I am glad agreeing to take the car for a spin. It was a big improvement. The turbo lag is gone, car is much more responsive and the boost kept on going on a full throttle.
I came back around to his shop with a big smile on my face too.
Anyway, he supposed to get dyno run sometime next week.
But, I hope what I experienced today can give you guys an idea. Not just by reading the graph.

BTW, Tom @ EAS, I'll try to visit your shop on the dyno day. Would like to dyno my X5.

I'm glad that you enjoyed your experience, but I will say for one that the turbo lag does not disappear. It's not bad by any means, but it certainly doesn't go away with the addition of the JB4.

Yeah, I was going to say, no matter how you tune it, it still takes the actual turbines (you know, the exhaust driven portion from which 'turbocharger' derives its name) some finite amunt of time to spin up and begin producing intake air pressure. You can do tuning tricks to make this finite time even less, but there is still some amount of time for this to happen. This finite time is what is called 'turbo lag'

Now, in the small turbos of the S55, this time is incrediblys hort as it is, and apparently one goal of the F8x engineers was to make it feel like a normally aspirated car, so they likely already used some of these tuning tricks, but it is still going to exist no matter what.

My apology, I shouldn't say the turbo lag is gone.
It is reduced.
But, I forgot to mention 1 thing, the M4 is 6MT, not 8AT. It could also be a factor.
But, again, overall experience was great.

I have a 6MT with a JB4 and I'm loving it as well. EAS should be posting dyno info soon.

Fred's good people, he was just here a couple of days ago testing new downpipes and left an extra set behind for our M4:

Feel free to drop by anytime for a dyno, love to check out your X5 (assuming its not AWD).

Definitely. Want to do some extended testing with JB4 with stock exhaust first.

Did you get a chance to post your results from last week or did you want me to post? Just starting to catch up a bit.

Tom, it is RWD. Can't justify getting AWD while living in LA.

I was going to let you post since it's your dyno and you're such a professional at it. I'm excited for our upcoming day at the shop too, since it'll be earlier in the day and I should have DPs and a full exhaust by then. (my car is currently getting a proto put on)
