Break in procedure

Is there a bmw published break in procedure for these cars ? I’m picking up my 540 today and was wondering about it.

I usually just keep away from and hard launches and whole on throttle for the first 500 miles ?

Thanks for any tips or links.

It's in the paper manual that you should get with the car.
Essentially it states to drive moderately and to not exceed certain revs and speeds and I'm pretty sure it advises not to use launch control. This is all up to 1200 miles after which you gradually increase (revs and speeds)

As I say it's in the manual.

You will hear many opinions on this ( just at previous threads!!)

Congratulations on the new car. My 540i's manual stated to keep revs under 4500rpm and speed under 100mph for the first 1200 miles, without using launch control, full load, or kickdown. The tires and brakes also need a few hundred miles of moderate driving.

This seems to come up a lot but consider that people who do European delivery pickup up M cars all the time in Germany and take them into the Autobahn immediately. They drive them all over Germany at German speeds with no ill effects. It get debated all the time in the M3 section of the forum.

I think that if you let the car warm up to proper operating temp and do not thrash it I am not sure there is a real break in period on these cars. Its not like the M cars which get a fluid flush after 1200 and have launch control turned on.

The M cars, well, at least the M5, have launch control available day 1, though the manual says not to use it before 3100 miles (IIRC).

F80 M3s do not. It is turned on by the dealer after the 1200 mile brake in service. Still My statement stands. People who do ED drive these cars over 100 MPH and at RPM over 4500 from day one.

M car is different though, like after 1200 miles you go to dealer for a brief visit right?

Yes oil change, diff fluid change and in some M cars they enable launch control. Basically a fluid change and they hook it up to the scanner and make sure everything is running properly.
