I must be in the extreme minority, still on the lowly xs and I love wireless charging and have no overheating issues. Much more convenient than plugging in. I’m fine with it being slow. The main purpose is to preserve existing charge.

Seems like the main problem is that it was designed for older, smaller, less power hungry phones.

Slim case, no case, etc. even if you can get it to fit, and I did, it’s too small of an area. Just a pain in the ass getting the phone in and out.

I’ll try my 14 PM for you.
If you can try and get back I really appreciate it. The car is at the detailer and can’t try myself right now unfortunately.

I want also to understand if in a pinch I can use digital key on iPhone or not. I doubt it fits and NFC works for digital key considering also 14PM thickness due to new cameras.

Will do. I know it will fit with no case. So in a pinch you’re all set. It’s just not a reasonable way to charge your phone and place it easily. I’m at the gym, car is home, will check in a few hours.

Confirmed. It’s fits with no case. I rock the Apple leather cases, that a non-starter. Pretty much the only cases that will work are the ultra thin ones that are slippery as hell and provide zero protection. Ask me how I know.

Thank you for confirming, much appreciated! I can guess why you know 😅

Also NFC / digital key works naked?

I don’t have the digital key functionality in my 2018, but I have it in my 2021 X5 and yes, it works fine with a case on. It’s just like Apple Pay, think like that. You don’t have to take your case off at the register when paying with Apple Pay.

Thanks for confirming. I know that I was wondering if it would work due to the tight fit. But probably if it charges naked it also works naked for NFC.

Tested it myself: an iPhone 14 PM fits in a 2023 5 Series, and charges/activates, but barely. It doesn't touch the borders, but by less than 1mm.

With an apple leather case it doesn't even if "pushing" it in. My guess is with a very very slim case it could fit with a bit of a push.

Yup, exactly what I told you. There are a few threads on which “cases” will fit, but honestly, they are so thin it’s not even worth it.

The charging tray kind of sucks for charging. It’s slow and the phone often overheats in it. But for your purposes of uses it as a key in a pinch, it’s fine.

Personally, I went with a low profile USB-C lighter plug between the cup holders and I keep a nice black coiled USB-C to lightening cord in the center console and I plug it in when I need a charge which is rare. USB-C literally charges the phone on minutes.

Thanks. I think I'll go a similar way, using the wireless charger in a pinch, but defaulting to USB-C charging. I don't need "very fast" charging, so I'll stick to the USB-C ports instead of using a dedicated charger.

Strange… got a 2022 530e, without the charging pad, but my iPhone 13 Pro Max doesnt fit whatsoever…
Is the actual storage area size there bigger when you have the charging pad option??
