**Buying a new treadmill**

Hi,

I'm buying a new treadmill from CL and im not sure what things i should look for.
She claim she bought it for $2,500, but is selling it for $700. it's brand new still in the box; there for i wont be able to test it. She said i could open the box and look it, but wont be able to test it. she also bought a 5 year warranty for it. Is there anything i should look for before taking it home? or should i just take the time and put it together at her place and test it? advise. Thank you

tell her to show you a receipt or some sort of proof she purchased it for that much. i'm sure she didn't pay $2,500 in cash so receipts or credit card statement.

i honestly would not buy it. good price but a NIB treadmill being discounted over 80% of what she paid is very suspicious. not to mention, you can't test it out?

if not, tell her to bring it to your house and you'll set it up there. if everything works as it should then you'll pay for it. if she's an honest seller and knows it's new then she has nothing to worry about.

What is the payment method?

Western Union scam...?

EDIT: I guess you'll definitely see it in person because it is a treadmill, which can't really be shipped..

no she wants me to go to her house and pick it up. of course payment would be cash. I have her addy and phone #. It also seems too good to be true that's why I'm having second thoughts. She claims she had a knee injury and is trying to collect money for the operation, she's about an hour away from my house. I dont think she will be able to deliver to my house...

she has also updated the add saying that it has been sold. She was selling it for $1,200 then $900, and now for $700. what do you guys think scam?

The steep discount is fishy. When something is too good to be true, it usually is particularly on CL. All you really need is pics of the box, invoice/receipt (look at date of purchase), and paper work for the warranty prior to going to her place. Without all three, I would question her hard. If it indeed has a warranty, I don't feel a need to test onsite.

Another thing to be aware of, treadmills are HEAVY and long. The motor in those things weigh a lot. My roommate and I had one hell of a time getting ours upstairs.

I wouldn't buy a treadmill.

Everyone I know, including my mom, bought one. They all end up getting a bit of use in the beginning. Then they just take up space and collect dust.

Why the fuck would you buy a treadmill? Unless you live somewhere where running around outside will get you shot. If you aren't man enough to run outside your not going to have the willpower to use the treadmill either.

spend that $700 on a gym membership and take some cardio classes. you'll see 100x the results you'd get off the home treadmill.

For convenience. So you're more of a man than me if you run outside and I run on a treadmill. That makes sense. I'll pass the info to some of my bodybuilder buddies.

I already have gym membership $33/month, but i find it hard to wake up at 8am run for an hour then go home and try to do it again at 10pm at night. I know I will do much better running from my basement with a big screen tv or my own music. thanx for the advise tho. I have request the pics and receipt and she still hasn't reply so we'll see what happens. thanx guys

No I'm just saying if you cant simply walk out the door and run there's no way you have the motivation to use the treadmill. A treadmill is no more convenient then opening your door and running out it.

this is what she said after i asked her for the pics and receipt of purchase:

Hey, I hope that I didn't miss you. I will go and take some pictures. The box is standing upright, but I will get those sent to your phone in just a few minutes. Also, I will have to search and find the receipt, but if you allow me to get that to you later, I can either fax or scan and email it to you. Either way is fine. Just let me know.

UPDATE**

She just sent me 4 pics of the box standing outside her house. the box is huge. I think she's legit. I'll find out tonight, thanx for everyone's comment.

Wow - not a lot of people actually bought treadmills, I suspect. Nothing about this seems suspicious to me. They are always dirt cheap because they're bulky, hard to move, and about 90% of the people that buy them quit using them within a couple of weeks of purchase (typically if someone sticks with a workout for 6 weeks, they'll stick with it period).

As far as using one. Upside is convenience, especially if you live somewhere like Chicago where the winter's get seriously cold or there's a lot of snow. The downside is that they don't work as well as running because they help you along - if you ever run outside again, you'll discover you're not as good as the readout tells you. Still better than laying off completely until the weather improves.

Heres what you should look for. Reputable name like Life Fitness which are in many gyms sell home fitness equipment. I have a F3 foldable treadmill by Life Fitness and it has a heavy continous duty 3.0 hp motor drive-very durable and consistent. The shock absorption system should be considered so theres less strain on your knees. Also, their 10 year warranty, lifetime on spring shock absorbers and frame and 5 and 10 yrs on the electrical/mechanical and motor respectively. If this so called "2500" treadmill lacks these, it's a scam or its not worth your money
