Lightbulb iDrive 7 starting in G30 from 07/2019

My friend ordered a 540d, it was supposed to be built in the third week of June.

He just got an offer from a dealer, that if he will wait and postpone the production to the third week of July, he will get a new dashboard with BMW Live Cockpit Professional and iDrive 7. He was also told, that it's not possible to get it now with M style steering wheel.

He obviously decided to wait. This was in the Czech Republic, Europe. No additional details provided.

Dealer provided two pictures, first showing the new dashboard, second is the current one.

Is he ordering an M Sport?

If so, I would bet that the steering wheel situation is just temporary (happened with some of the early G30 M Sports that were delivered here in the UK in 2017) and if he were to wait even longer, he could get ID7 and the correct M Sport steering wheel.

Supposedly there's a slight updated M-sport wheel from 07/2019 productions, but perhaps there are availability constraints on this then?

I have a 530e on order, with an M-sport wheel specc'd, which is scheduled for production first week of july. So far I haven't heard of any delays to that date... We'll wait and see..

Attached is a picture I posted in another thread, from the UK configurator, showing the updated M sport wheel..

Personally, I would rather have the MSport steering wheel than IDrive 7.

I would as well. However, if it came with iDrive 7 and Live Cockpit then I might have to pick that.

I'm waiting for a 2020 530e with M Sport steeringwheel, too. It sounds odd he can't get it, however it might be a country delivery issue, but sounds odd. I ordered mine in Swe, and I ordered the 2019 model. I didn't get to chose, the production line for 2019 had ended, this was a few weeks ago, so I had to take the 2020 as a replacement.

I did too order a 530e 2019 model but few weeks after order I got call from dealer saying I had to get 2020 cause they didn't make 2019 anymore.
Got no information about anything removed or downgraded.
I ordered m sport with heated steering wheel.

Dealer don't know much about 2020 he says. But what he did know was:
- Live cockpit with idrive 7
- 25% bigger hybrid battery

And another seller there said that I might get xdrive also because of the first cars is only made with xdrive.

I had expected delivery in date 1st week in July, but for now cause of 2020 model I have 1st week in August.

Hmm...I actually don't mind the non-M steering wheel in the first post.

But am also still not sold on ID7 and all its bugs.

Good on the dealer for giving him the choice, though!

I'm 100% with you. I also like the Plum interior trim but the gloss black center console area that comes with the Plum is a deal breaker for me because of the same concerns.

IDrive 7 is cool for a few days then you realize it still isn't nearly as good as you hoped for at integrating your smartphone functionality. So, we wait for iDrive 8.....probably one of the most interesting things about iDrive 7 is the OTA updates to the iDrive system. Then again, my bet is BMW will send few useful updates then it'll die off as they move development towards the next iDrive....

Totally agree with you..i bought X5 last month and idrive 7.0 is full of bugs and problems, and yes best thing about idrive 7.0 is new update..3 weeks after i took delivery i went to dealership for new software update because is much safer to do it in dealership, then remotely..apparently there were several X5 sitting in service, due to fact that owners did update by them self snd something went wrong...

Seems bmw are rushing out the software without thorough testing. I'm sure like all companies they've set a deadline to have it ready which presumably in reality was a bit optimistic.

I was at the dealer picking up my car yesterday and was pushing for info on the update to the 5 series. I did not put a deposit down on my ordered car as the dealer knows me and I have always retained the option to not take the car if I choose not to. ( I never have stuck them with a car, I did however walk out with an M3 yeas ago when I went in to take delivery of a 3 series but that's another story for another time.)

The iDrive 7 is not ready for prime time from my conversations with sales and service. Many X5 owners are struggling with software issues, blank screens and are forced to reboot-which requires pulling over and not driving until its up and running again and then if it continues, have updates installed at the dealer. Seems this was rushed. For whatever reaso0n the & series cars are not suffering as badly and service does not know why. It's the same programs, screens, buttons and software? I will get the iDrive 7 next time around when its sorted out. I think in 36 months it will be smooth as silk.

In 36 months we'll have iDrive 8. And very likely new issues all over again.

I'm sure BMW recognizes this and would love to be able to provide better out of the box experience. Maybe they should partner with Apple or Google for their next gen iDrive?

ID7 is a half baked trick at best.

ID6 FTW!

I also dig the plum wood accents.

Yes iDrive 7 has issues. No doubt they'll fix them. Clearly Linux development has been challenging for BMW software engineers. Things were so much easier when they lived in a BSD world.
