2020 M550i European Delivery Order Placed

Hey guys and gals,

Placed my European Delivery order for an M550i which will be followed by a Performance Center re-delivery. This will be my 4th ED (3rd with BMW). Excited to experience the 530 HP/ 553 lb-ft and it should be a better daily than my F80 M3.

Here is what I will be picking up on September 10:

2020 M550i xDrive Sedan
Mediterranean Blue Metallic
(Ind) Caramel/Black Full Merino Leather
Driving Assistance Plus Package
Luxury Seating Package
Premium Package
Heated Steering Wheel
Space-saver spare
Front and Rear Heated Seats

MSRP: $85635

Congrats! Awesome build! Mind me asking what type of incentives or deals they gave you? I have a 2019 inbound this month, but looking to understand 2020 pricing. Dealer tells me they don't have anything yet, no production slots either.

What travel plans are being considered while in Europe?

$76595 (EU invoice) + $1000 (Dealer profit, includes processing fee) + tax & tags - applicable incentives(if any) & leasing at buy rate.

Additionally, will be getting 1k CCA rebate.

Note that European Delivery does not come from allocation and usually rebates don’t apply. If you are using a dealer allocation, you discount will differ, but you’ll be able to apply any available rebates.

Finally got our delivery date. It is September 10, with production in week 35. Apparently this is first possible production week and delivery day for orders with Individual interiors (as per email from BMW Group ED Specialist)

We had requested delivery on Aug 30 - 2 days, since we had already booked flights earlier in the year... had to cancel and rebook the flights. Was not going to sacrifice the merino leather for $150 in cancelation fees.

hey do you mind sharing who you ordered through?

Also, does this also apply to other 5er or only the 550?

I have agreed to the sales manager at my dealer on a deal, but the salesman has been terrible at communicating and i have had to chase him only for him to tell me that he doesnt think it can be done because early/mid september is too early on the start of production and they dont allow it. It sounded like a BS excuse, so looking to see if others have been able to order.

Sounds like it will be sick. Love the med blue (my choice) and so happy with the color. Your interior will be so nice too. So excited for you

Awesome build! Very close to what mine would be - please share pics when you get it!

Also, since you've done ED so many times - any tips on people looking at it for the first time?

I have a vague recollection that the $995 delivery charge is waived for a European delivery. Did you find that to be the case?

Edit: It's Volvo that waives the delivery fee (also pays for 2 airplane tickets)

Mercedes-Benz waives the destination fee as well.

Also curious as to how the lease term is handled for ED. It can take nearly 2 months from ED port drop-off to re-delivery in some parts of the US. Is the lease suspended during this time or do you continue paying to have your car on a boat?

They pay one month’s lease payment, however there is a lease money factor adder of 0.003. I got lil under 10% off MSRP

No additional benefits as such, other than the usual benefits of leasing. For me the slightly lower payments (full taxes paid upfront in MD), knowing what I’ll owe upfront and short term tie in are the benefits. I bought my M3 after lease and got a discount on the residual at the end.... so you aren’t necessarily paying a lot more than financing.

USD88k for a M550i? Serious how you guys in the US manage to keep the car price and tax so low?

I also owned a USD88k BMW. Guess what? Its a 530i....

Thanks for this info. Let's see if I understand your post. There are two ways to do an ED: 1) without a dealer allocation, and 2) with a dealer allocation. If you are doing without a dealer allocation, you get the BMWNA advertised ED price and no incentives. If you are doing this WITH a dealer allocation, you get whatever price you have negotiated, plus any applicable incentives. I suspect if one is going for a limited availability model, a dealer allocation may be hard to get. For a bread and butter model, the allocation may be easier.

So if I'm right so far, let's follow up on Option 2, with a dealer allocation. You have a contract with a negotiated price. At some point in the order/delivery process, which is before one goes to Germany, you pay/finance the car. Is that when one determines whatever incentives are offered/taken?

Thanks for your (on anyone else's ) help in understanding this.
