Did he blow the left tire? PEBSAY brain-fart on the toe brakes?

I can understand mashing the throttle for a few seconds to get everything back in line from my racing days, but my natural brain thought (as a non-pilot) would have been to go back to idle after that and let the friction of the grass stop the plane once I was heading in that direction on an off-runway excursion.

Of course, the armchair accident investigator in me thinks that any pilot carrying a cockpit camera is likely a rookie...or possibly even on their first solo.....

Better on the ground than in the air I guess.

To the mod who changed the title,

I think the student pilot was doing a touch and go.

Thank you!

Looks to me like he confused driving and flying. Early in the video when he adds throttle with his hand, his right leg seems to press hard on the rudder pedal. Maybe he thought he was pressing the gas pedal in a car. That is what caused him to make a sharp right turn off of the runway and continue turning right towards the building. We then see him turning the yolk to the right, probably thinking he is turning a steering wheel, to try to turn away from the building.

Oof. Power off and ride that out. There was no saving that one.

The FAA will fully document that, and will stay on his record - forever -

I completed my private license 10+ years ago. I did dozens and dozens of touch and go's with my flight instructor. And honestly, I would direct blame for this on his instructor, possibly for releasing him too early to fly on his own. And that assumes he's a student pilot if he has his license - Uhm he shouldn't be allowed to fly without serious remedial assistance in a simulator.

Taking off is easy, landing is the hard part. But, landing just beyond the numbers on the runway and getting a solid landing is extremely satisfying.

I am no longer current and miss flying, but will return to it again in the future. And I will likely put myself through a two-week refresher course with an instructor to be sure I'm up to snuff.

That was easy to save. He actually had control until he drifted to the left and then panicked.

Yes, but ones he was pointed at the row of hangers and trying a cross runway departure he should have shut it down. This is where tail draggers are nice, you can just power off and ground loop it. Haha.

Yes, of course, but by then he was too deep in his panic to do anything useful. Still, he could have regained control before hitting the hangar.

This isn't the job for a simulator. This guy needs practice taxiing. The CFI needs to make this pilot sit on his hands and control the plane with just his feet until it becomes normal for him.

I've had many students who had a hard time learning to steer with their feet, but when I made them sit on their hands, they quickly learned to use their feet.

He firewalled that throttle at :08 and never looked back.
