Help a wheel noob choose vossen or HRE wheels/tire combo for M550i
I have an alpine white M550i xdrive with 20inch 668m wheels. I'm pretty set on the Vossen HF5 in satin black or satin bronze. I've always loved the bronze wheels with a white or black car.
I've been reading some posts on this subforum and looks like 20x9 et 25 for the front and 20x10.5 et 35 for the rears is what a lot of people go with. I don't plan on lowering it ever. I don't want any poke or rubbing etc. How much will the ride change with getting wheels in this size and offset? Vossen HF5 come in 20x9 +25 but looks like the 20x10.5 only comes in +30,+42,+45 from the websites online that have them. Unless i go with the custom program and select the offset i want. So if i could only get the 20x10.5 in those offsets which one should i get and what size spacers? Looks like if i get it from auto talent itll let me select the offset i want. So im guessing this is a custom order? https://autotalent.com/products/voss...41025183416471 I'm strongly leaning towards the satin bronze. what do you guys think satin bronze or satin black? should i ceramic coat them before i put tires on em? As for tires, I live in super rainy oregon. I just got this M550i and my previous car was a stage 2 f10 m5 lol. Its nice to have xDrive for sure. So you guys think Michelin AS4 255/35 in the front and 285 30 for the rear is the best option for tires? thanks for your help! heres some pictures of the wheels and pics of them on the f90 m5 Here is a video of 21 inch HF5 On a 530E. looks amazing. I dont know if i wanna do 21 inch because of the ride quality and rubbing etc. |

Hey,
Nice set of wheels for sure. I think they will look great regardless if you do satin bronze or black. Sounds like you’re set on satin bronze and I think they will look great on a white car (I generally don’t like black wheels so I’m a little biased) Regarding the offset: if you can get a +35 on the rear, you will have a slight poke. On my HREs it’s about 4mm, therefore a +30 would yield you almost flush fitment. A few mm won’t make or break the look, I personally would do +35 if given the option, I like the beefy stance even if it poke a few mm. Tires I would to 255 front and 295 in rear if you can. That width of rim will accommodate a 295 tire nicely. Ceramic coating I would coat them after weights have been applied, so good balance and road force, then coat. As far as rubber hmm, I’ve always ran summer and winter sets on all my BMWs. If you must do all season, you can’t go wrong with Michelins. |

So I think I'm gonna go Satin Bronze Vossen HF5 20x9 et 25 in the front and 20x10.5 et 30 in the rear. Tires I'll go with Michelin AS4 255/30 in the front and 295/30 in the rear? i also dont like the too much stretched look. a little is ok lol
what do you think? sell me on et 35 for the rear vs 30.. lol I wonder if there's any vendor that does special member pricing on Vossen wheels lol. I love this car way more than my stage 2 f10 M5 though. Amazing car. I cant wait to add some goodies Last edited by M5pnw; 07-08-2023 at 03:25 PM.. |

https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1908929 "HRE FF10 20x9 et 25 front and 20x10.5 et 35 rear. Tires are Michelin AS4 255/35 and 285/30." I like how his looks. Im such a noob with wheels but im learning from you guys. I want the Vossen HF5 and if i need to i could get custom offset, but it would cost a little more. They offer 20x9 et +25 and 20x10.5 et +30 or +45 off the shelf. So if i want 20x10.5 et +35 i will need to go the custom offset route. Do you think 20x10.5 et +30 would have too much poke? So Im thinking 20x9 et+25 with 255/35 tires on the front and 20x10.5 et+35 with 285/30 tires on the rear? Just Like the dude with the hre ff10 setup. I want close to flush as possible with no poke and for tires I prefer no stretch but a little bit is ok i guess What do you guys think? Last edited by M5pnw; 07-15-2023 at 09:50 PM.. |

Any negative to running spacers? If i got the +45 off the shelf offset wouldnt i have to get 10mm spacers to achieve the preferred +35? Man i feel like an idiot Last edited by M5pnw; 07-15-2023 at 10:40 PM.. |

If you’d like I’ll take a few pics tomorrow that show the poke so you can get an idea how a +35 and 285 wheel would look. |

So maybe if I don’t go the custom offset +35 route for the rear I’ll get the 20x10.5 +45 and try to get the perfect spacer to get as flush as possible. 7mm spacer sounds like it would be perfect then if you got the 2mm poke with +35. I read in that the HRE ff10 thread you wish you went 295 for the rear. Should I roll with 295 for no stretch? |

If it’s $300 for custom offsets, best option might be just to stick with +45 and go with 285, knowing you can go out with spacers a bit or go with +45 and 295 and you might not need spacers at that point. Does Vossen have a tire size recommendation for the wheel? |
