Should my tyres be square or staggered?
All of my previous BMWs have had staggered tyres, however my 530i SE doesn't. I'm assuming it has the original wheels on it, the tyres are marked 2619 so were likely replaced sometime in the latter part of 2019 or 2020.
I'm a little underwhelmed by the P7 Cinturatos and plan on changing them all at some stage soon - how can I check whether I should be sticking with the same setup (245/45/18, non-XL rated)? |

My 2012 535i had a square setup as it was non-m sport. My 2014 is an M Sport with staggered wheels. My 2019 is also an M Sport, but with a square setup. I didn't think I would be able to tell the difference, but the wider rear tires seem to rotate the car better. Maybe it's a placebo effect...

All things being equal, the Wider rear tires prevent oversteer
M diff however can create oversteer but it depends on how it's programmed and when it will then do that |

Square is nice so you can rotate wheels and tires unless tires are direction, then you can only go F>R but still, you can move them around the car for more even wear.
Plus, if you're adding more rubber to the road you have more grip. Conversely, maybe a minuscule amount of efficiency will be lost with more grip. |

My 2023 came with square and I’m in process of finding some staggered 20” M wheels

Seems square setup isn't unusual then based on several replies; I'll get the tyre fitters to check the wheels are all the same when I go to get the tyres done just to be sure. Cheers. |

Be careful - if you order the all-season RFT tires not only do they come square but top speed is forever limited to 130 mph. Although I never plan to drive that fast, it infuriates me that they would take such a beautiful engine and cripple it like that.

Doesn't selecting the summer tire option in the iDrive correct that? How about coding?

Gents,
excuse my silly question - what does it mean "square" vs. "staggered" tyres? Is it about the same size of tyres vs. different front and rear tyres? Thx, Mike |

Square means same size on all 4 quarters
Staggered is different size on the front compared to the rear Example My m550 has 20 245 on the front and 20 275 on the rear so mine are staggered The m3 I believe has 19 inch wheels on the front and 20 inch on the rear So againstaggered |
