Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Recommendation
I've just replaced my 245/40r19 & 275/35r19 Pilot Sport 4 tyres with Pilot Sport 5 - and the difference is amazing. The Sport 4 tyres had covered 6,000 miles but I managed to hit two really deep pot holes which buckled a front and rear rim, so I decided to change the tyres as well as the wheels just in case there was internal damage.
The new tyres are a lot, lot quieter than the old ones and the vagueness in the straight ahead position has all but gone. I was never happy with the steering since changing from runflats but the feel has now been restored to as it was. Damages in the road surface are dealt with in a more competent way. You still feel the bumps but the hard edge seems to have been taken off the impact. Maybe that's because the old tyres were down to 6mm, but I don't recall them being this comfortable even when they were new. Remember, that comparison is between the Sport 4 and Sport 5 which are both runflats, and not between a runflat and a non-runflat tyre. Overall I am delighted by my purchase and I would urge anyone still running on zero pressure tyres to think about making the switch to these new Pilot Sports. You lose little, if anything, in steering response but you'll see significant gains in ride comfort and noise levels. |

Thanks for this post. I hope you can get back to this thread once you have 10k+ miles on them. I will be curious how these tires perform as they age.

switching from used hardened tires to new soft fresh rubber is always better in all the ways you describe, at least it's not the same or worse so that's always good to hear

The ‘vagueness’ in the steering appeared as soon as I had the PS4s fitted, and it never got better or worse, so the comparison to the PS5 is pretty much irrespective of wear or hardening of the PS4. I’ll report back in a few months! |

I looked them up but couldn't find the PS 5 in the right size for the M550: 245/40R19 & 275/35R19. Maybe they are not available in the US yet?
I need to replace my original Goodyear F1's. Will probably go with PS 4's unless the PS 5's become soon. |

They're worth waiting for if you can as (in my opinion) they're considerably better than the PS4 in just about every way. |

How’s it going with the PS5’s? Looking to put a new set of tyres on my G31 & was considering PS5’s but read a thread where they gave a vibration & the guy had them replaced

When I did some investigating into the PS5, Michelin had stated that they were only going to be available on new vehicles for now. Can't be purchased individually from a tire shop.

The PS5 is a direct replacement for the PS4 but not the PS4S, as I’m looking at buying a new set of tyres for my G31 I’ve been doing some research & it seems that the 4S is still better than the 5, so It’s just whether I put a set of go flats or get the Zero Pressure PS4S’s
