Don't you just love my wife?

The lease on my 540i isn't up until a year from ... well, yesterday I think.

I'm on that silly email list from BMW, notifying me of special new cars and events, like the new M5CS. My wife also got the email. She forwards it to me and says "you would look good in this".

LOL, I know I would. It's $142,000 I reply.

"It could be your final car". No, I'm not dead yet. But retirement is in view (5.5 years) and she has hopes that I'll stop being so fickle with my cars.

I explained that those seats would prove to be bothersome for daily use. She says, "sure, but I love that color and the gold accents".

Me personally, I like the green, but the gold, eh not so much.

Nice huh? I've already got permission.

Nice car but no green cars for me. Too army looking. I swore I'd never have a green car or sleep in a tent again. But truly wise choice in wives.

I could absolutely see my wife saying the same exact thing! She'd love NOTHING more than for me to be totally satisfied with my car and never having to deal with me researching, buying, and modding yet one more "final" car! LOL Been through more cars than I care to admit - but the thought of a final car.. well.. are we ever truly satisfied? There's always going to be the next best thing. I can't remember how many times I said, "If I manage to get this one, I'm done, it's perfect, I'd never need to buy anything else ever again, what more could I possibly need?" Who are we kidding?

So true!

Especially with the shift to electric! The roar of an ICE engine is so primal and visceral, but we'll see electric opening up a whole new performance envelope that will beckon us to come ride the wave of its infancy and evolution.

You hit that one on the head!

Electric is the future but the sound is intoxicating for sure. Something just came to my mind. I didn't like fuel injection because I liked the smell of the fuel pouring from the carbs. Then eventually I was OK with injection.

One more for yua, I coded my car to turn off the active sound because I wanted to know how my car actually sounded. Now it's very quiet inside, almost too quiet - but there is something about it that I like, though. With that said, I have my sights on the Dinan exhaust for my car.. Logic of no logic.. That's my $0.02.

Well it's cheaper than my 1.6lt 520i G30 which is over $150,000 with a few options (HUD, Harman, AdaptiveLED, ConnectedDrive, Digital cluster, 4zone A/C, Ventilated/Massaging front seats) (and still lots of missing options: no adaptive cruise, no surround view camera, no comfort access, no heated rear seats, no integral steering, no adaptive suspensions, ...) Damn tax regulations of my country

Awesome wife. I’ve got a good one too. She lets me indulge my car addiction.

If you’re not hot on the gold. Get an individual M5C your way. With all the goodies you will get to 13x,xxx.xx.

Enjoy it !

Thanks all for the comments.

I know the M5 is awesome, I've driven it, and I've been on track with them rapidly filling up my rear view mirror. Fabulous cars.

But unless I won the lottery, it seems that the performance delta between the 550 and the M5 isn't that great. Although if I had the latter I'd take it to the track but not the former, but other than that, I don't see paying the premium.

Usually when I order a car, I get a stripper because you do better %-wise on resale than a loaded car. But that's because I'm a flipper. If I'm buying my last or next-to-last car, then I can splurge, right?

The 550 is a beast and more everything than My 540 ( I am super happy witn my car)

My wife drives the 530ix lux line multi contour seats . I have the 540 ix M Sport with the MSport suspension.

She feels mine rides too rough and that the seats are not as comfortable.

So it’s not all about performance it’s about dialing in what you want.

I didn’t jump on the 550 for the same reason you didn’t jump on the M5. The extra money was not something I wanted to come up with in my global budget. Now that my kids are out of college I have some extra disposable income . We will see what happens.

You do have a great wife. Mine is not so car-enthusiastic, to say the least. I remember that my father used to have a blue necktie with a white stripe which consisted of the prominent words "I Love My Wife". Underneath it in much fainter thread was: "But Oh That Boat". I have seen T shirts with the same statements. Maybe we need one that says "I Love My Wife" "But Oh That BMW". -Bob
