2021 M550i All-Season Tires

Hi everyone. I'm in the process of ordering an M550i. I'm just waiting for my lease broker to get an allocation with his dealer.

I definitely need all-season tires so I'm going with the all black 19 inch wheels.

For those who have received their cars with all-seasons from the factory, which tires (make and model) have you received.

I ordered the 540 with all season black wheels. They should be the same type of 19 inch wheel. The tire I received was Pirelli p7

There are 20" A/S options for the 550. Your post made it seem like you feel you have to get 19" to get A/S tires.

You can't order 20" wheels with all seasons tires from BMW for the M550i. Just with the 19".

Why not get the 20” with the run flats, swap them with all seasons then put them back on at end of lease?

I had the dealer install 20" all-season non-runflat tires before I picked up the car. I then sold the virtually new 20" summer tires (4 miles on them) on the tire forum. The end result was I was out of pocket a few hundred dollars but well worth it to get all-season, non-runflat tires which are much more useful for year-round use in my climate.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I actually really like the all black 19" wheels. I want the all-season tires because I have a C7 Corvette already with summer tires. Also, no top speed limiter on the Corvette.

My 2019 540xi came with Goodyear All Seasons on its 19" wheels. They are fine for normal driving but I have read complaints about them. If I had had a choice I would have selected Michelins or Pirellis. As many have noted, 19s are a bit better than 20s on tires with respect to damage by potholes, etc. And I actually switched my (non-Z07) Corvette Z06 to Michelin All Season High Performance Run Flats last spring when the stock Pilot Sports were showing cords on the inside rears after 22k miles. I really like them compared to the Pilot Sports. (I don't track my car other than occasional touring laps when they were available). --Bob

You can't order 20" wheels with all seasons tires from BMW for the M550i. Just with the 19".
You didn't say you were looking to get them OEM; just that you were looking at the 19" wheels because you needed A/S's. I was merely letting you know that you could order the car with 20"s and get A/S rubber for them. One of the first things I do before taking delivery most of the time; swap the POS OEM tires out for something 100x better. Then I put the POS OEM tires right back on to give it back to BMW.

Enjoy the car. It's a riot!

I definitely appreciate the help. My order has been placed and I have a production number. I can't wait to get it. I'm anxious to see how much I drive the Corvette after getting this.

Different animals. You'll probably realize just how harsh that vette rides. 🤣 You'll love the pull of the BMW.

I must have jinxed myself as I did this on the way to work on a pothole this morning. Joys of 20"s with the winter potholes / craters in the PA / MD area.

Wow I'm sorry to see that. I live in PA and cringe when driving on I-80 in the Poconos. Some of the potholes are so bad.

My 2021 M550i came with 20" summer performance tires. After doing some research, rather than swap tires twice a year to available all season tires, I opted to buy from my BMW dealer, with a 25% discount, the black 19" wheels with Pirelli Sottozero 3 performance snow tires mounted. I had my dealer ceramic coat the new wheels before they swapped them on my car. They store my summer wheel/tire set for free. They will charge me $100 to swap the wheels which includes rebalancing each time.

While my dealer has my summer wheels I'm having them ceramic coat them so that they will be ready to go in the spring.
I live in PA outside of Philly. We don't usually get much snow but we do get freezing temperatures. However, this February, we have been getting a lot of snow. I have not driven my car in this yet as I home recovering from total right hip replacement surgery that was done two weeks ago.

Potholes can also be an issue where I live. The 19" winter wheels should fare better on rough roads.

A few weeks after taking delivery of my new car in September, I spent a day applying two coats of graphene coating. The manufacturer, Glassparency, claims that the two coats should last 4-5 years. We shall see.

Bud James

I did this with my X5M. It just became too much of a hassle. Plus I lease so making the $3k+ investment in another tire/wheel set seemed overboard. I have used Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06's on most of my BMW's (including the X5M winter setup) and I too am outside of Philly. They have never starved for grip. Dry and wet performance is great and you get the extended tire life of a slightly harder compound in a A/S as opposed to a summer performance tire. If I didn't lease I would probably make the investment for both my current bimmers but the Conti's serve me well and never feel I'm overdriving the tire. (Have the Michelin pilot sport A/S 4' on X3M).

After my blowout yesterday on a pothole I'm somewhat questioning the 20's in the winter here.

Rest up and get better so you drive there car!

I would definitely NOT get all seasons on such a powerful car. Summer tyres for summer and winter tyres for winter.

Actually, I put Michelin A/S 3+ZP high performance all season runflats on my 2016 Z06 last spring and they are great tires. While I don't track my car, I do run touring laps in it and the tires are fine for that. I am happy I made the change when my stock Pilot Sports wore out. --Bob

Do you mind me asking which dealer you are using in the Philly area? I was thinking of getting a set of 19" wheels for my M550i for winter and then use the 20s for summer, but I don't have a place to store them. I didn't realize dealers would do this? Do you know if this is something they do for everyone that buys wheels from them, or did they do it for you because you bought your car from them?

Hope the recovery is going well!

I can't speak for Bud, but I know this is a service that Thompson BMW advertises out of Doylestown. I considered it, but I haven't decided to do a winter set vs a summer set to take them up on the offer or ask BMW of the Main Line (my dealer) if they do similar.

I use Thompson BMW in Doylestown, PA. Call Jake in the parts department.
