M550 - Platinum plan?

Buying a 2018 M550i with 40k km (25k miles) on it. Dealer wants $6.5k + tax Canadian for 8 years/unlimited km (until summer 2026) platinum plan. I'm hoping to get it under $6k, but it's still a significant amount.

I had an F10 M5 so I know how things can add up quickly, although that car was good to me, nothing major.

If I don't get the warranty I'm mostly concerned with expensive repairs (over 10k), although small things can also add up over 5+ years.

I've looked at third party warranty options in Canada for obviously cheaper prices but I don't feel comfortable dealing with any of the associated issues over time, I'd rather pay more now for the bmw plan and just have to deal with the dealership for repairs.

Any thoughts on this warranty for the M550?

Thx

I purchased a 5yr/60k warranty for $3900. I plan on selling and purchasing a new model in five years so that's my rationale.

This is my first BMW so I wanted to be prepared and many stated they would opt for the warranty. However, I don't know what all the tiers are and what they offer. What does Platinum offer?

As far as I can tell platinum adds all electrical (instead of limited) and the infotainment system.

Most of those plans are marked up 100% of the dealer cost (or more).

Offer $3k and negotiate, shrewdly meeting him right in the middle at $3500.

I'd also shop for a different extended warranty to compare so you can say "well, XYZ said $xxxx for their plan and it covers all the same stuff.

The F&I guy has an incentive to sell to keep his "buy rate" numbers up, even if he doesn't make a ton of $ on the sale.

I think anyone can get the plans from them as they are not dealer or location specific.

I’ve never been able to get a discount on manufacture’s extended warranty from dealer in Canada.

Confirmed that unfortunately their warranty and pricing are for US customers only.

Got the car and warranty, love it! In winter it drives much better than my F10 M5. Always wanted AWD so glad I went that way.

Was only able to get a few hundred further reduction, but on the vehicle portion not the warranty portion. Also got a better interest rate than expected, so all in all I'm satisfied with what I'm paying for it. Warranty until summer 2026. Before taking delivery of the car they changed all pads and rotors (they had passed safety but weren't up to CPO standards), and 2 summer tires.
