Going to the dark side
When I realized that there is no way I am going to make space for a track toy car in a new house, I was so upset that I just had to get an M3. So I got it. It is still en-route from south of the border, but all the papers are done, and all I can do is wait.
Regarding the dark side - this is how it looks: Pretty mean for a stock car, eh? I hope I will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed my 335xi, which set the bar for my future car purchases really high... It is surprisingly tough to let my "blue car" go (but here is the listing: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=362504) Why M3 - I wanted a track car, and had no space or need for two cars, so choice was rather easy - it is pretty much the only track-worth car that can also be the only car in a family. I decided against modding 335xi, although it would probably be more cost-effective way to get a track-worthy family car, because 335xi is great as it is, just for a different purpose. I'll post my impressions once it's "evil twin" is here |

Congrats!
For me, the track toy is a car that I can afford to roll into a ball one day while keeping me alive. M3 definitely does not fit that bill. |

That is one beautiful car, I had the pleasure of driving one last year @ the BMW Driving School, as much as I love my 335, if I could afford it I would get the M3, the sound that, that car makes is music to my ears, I don't think I would every turn on the radio.

I will miss xdrive for sure, but I think the change will be worth it. I even thought about getting a used GTR or 911 4S, just for the AWD, but realized they are too impractical. |

This is my 3rd winter with my 335i, with a good set of snow tires, you will have no problem, the car is so intelligent. I would expect the same from the M3. Honestly I can't see myself ever going back to a front wheel drive car and my experience with this car, I really can't see myself paying the extra money for AWD (xdrive).

Congrats. Beautiful looking car. I got to autocross and drift the M3 at BMW driving school last summer. Amazing car, with a real backseat.
I drive a 335i, with Dinan stage 2, in Calgary. And I ski in the Rockies EVERY weekend, even powder days - no problems. M3 with good winter tires - read real winter tires not "performance" winter tires - will be fine, as long as the snow isn't deeper than the ground clearance. Try the Nokian Hakkapellitta R. From Finland, where the know something about snow. Still nearly as good as 3-season tires on dry pavement. AWD helps you get moving but does nothing for cornering or braking. Driving in the snow, the famous BMW weight distribution really shines, makes a great winter driving car. |

But anyways, great choice...put on some good winter tires and drive slowly and safely...RWD def doesn't have the loads of traction AWD does. But then AWD BMW is not for the track! cngratz! |
