530e EV Range

I've read on this site and many others, including watching youtube that this car had 31 miles of EV range. I went by a dealer to check it out myself, the sticker says 16. Is that right?

When you charge it up, it will max out at 15 miles. The 31 miles of EV range is the estimated EV miles when you're on auto e-drive. I usually get that much EV miles or more on my 530e but I've never tried using the setting to just drive purely on electric which I think will be a max of 15 miles.

That's not true. 31 miles is a what you will get in lab conditions with pure electric. In the real world, it's been claimed to be between 28-32km, or at least that is what BMW australia says.

I get the same 15 mile max on my 530e. Best so far is about 22 miles, but I live in PA and it has been very hot and the A/C drains the battery as well, at least that is what my BMW Genius told me.

Has anyone researched the 240v residential charging stations and have a recommendation? I don't want to wait 7-8 hours using the "occassional cable" provided by BMW.

Do you own one? Try getting 31 miles of charge and let me know.

I have the Juicebox Pro 40. It charges the 530e and Prius Prime in about 2.5 hours.

When i had a 530e on 2 day test drive i got 17 miles on ev only. That was on a cool <10c morning and with a fairly heavy right foot. 20-22 miles is about the best people get with ecopro etc. As my commute is 21 miles im hoping to use very little petrol when my 530e arrives in the autumn...

No not yet but it's coming. I am a i3 owner so I understand what range is all about. I didn't say anything about getting 31 miles. Like I said, that is under lab condition just like how you never get the fuel consumption that is claimed by the manufacturer. Also, I said BMW australia claims real world range of 28-32km (17.5-20 miles) which sounds bang on.

Being an i3 owner for awhile now I can tell you how you can get close to the claimed mileage but I don't think you would want to drive like that!

What I said was that when you charge it up, it will max out at 15 miles. You will never see it display more than that at full charge. When you drive it, you can eke out 30 ev miles if you keep the setting at auto e-drive. If you choose to use pure ev, it will not last more than 15-17 miles.

Jettie, I understood what you said. And I'm saying it's incorrect. Plenty of owners/test drivers has seen 25 miles displayed, so it's not restricted to 15 miles. The "GOM" estimates the available miles based on how you last drove before you charged it up. The 31 miles claim by BMW is for pure EV mode, not for auto e-drive. However as I said, it's a laboratory test number as opposed to real world number. I can find you reviews where owners/testers have been able to get 22-23 miles out of pure EV mode.

Anyway it's all irrelevant. If based on your style of driving, you are only getting 15 miles, then that is the number that matters for you.

When the 530e is parked and charging, you will not see more than 15 miles at full charge. It will not charge more than that. The meter on the dash will stop at 15 miles and will say fully charged. Sure, when you're driving it, you can get around 25 - 30 miles of hybrid electric driving.

Same, would be really really appreciative of a UK specific review on practicality, charging availability, costs etc. 530e really intrigues me.

with the "war on diesels" ever increasing, I think this model has the potential to be a very popular one in the UK.

The war would soon be on all types of liquid fuel. Countries are already announcing eradicating both petrol and diesel cars from their roads in not so distant future.

Are you saying BMW changed the "gauge" for the US? Doesn't make sense. Perhaps it doesn't display more than 15 on yours because of how you drive?

I was wondering the same thing. Is it using logged data for its projections?

I'm talking about the charging gauge that is displayed in the cluster when you unlock it. It says fully charged...15 miles. Same thing on my BMW Connected app...car always says charge 100% 15 miles. It has always been like that since I took delivery.
